Cyn, those are adorable pictures! It was supposed to storm here today, but is great and sunny. Well, really sunny....

I am horrified and sick! We were having a few small trees and branches cut off in the backyard and front, and the yard looks like a desert! Sunny, not much shade, sketchy... DISGUSTING! Our yard was full of shade-friendly flowers, beautiful pathways and gardens and SHADE... Our big beautiful meadow and patio, the guest house, and now... Gross! The sun and lack of big, beautiful Georgian trees ruins the whole thing now. My beautiful yard is no more... So we are planting lots of huge trees where they were, and they should be tall enough to give us almost the amount of shade that we used to have next Spring. There were also two large forests where the chickens roamed, and one is completely gone, the other trimmed so much that the trees are bone thin.

Gardens, 2 large forests, meadow??? ...... WAIT, did you move, Nick? Did I miss that? I thought you lived on a plot in town.

Your parents must have had a reason to have their trees trimmed. If you moved, then they are probably cleaning the place up. I am sure they didn't choose to do that to make a "desert." Home owners and parents have to make decisions like that as regular upkeep on their property. It is very nice that your parents allow you to keep chickens there, really. Appreciate that.

I didn't move. I just have a HUGE yard, for the area where I live. The forest-areas aren't large, lol, but they are compared to my yard! Oh, really, my parents are just as sad as I am. I am so glad that we are planting more, though. I really do appreciate what I have back there. In fact, I bought my mom a card last week as a thank you. The trimming trees, well I'm not sure, but the ones cut down were diseased. I understand that there was a reason for it, certainly. It was needed! It's just that no one here is happy about it. I am probably the least sad! I understand why it was done, and it was the thing needed to be done. Another thing is that with all the storms this week, we were not safe with all of the huge trees.

I will go take some pictures of what I mean tomorrow afternoon. It's getting dark here now, and I want to show you how much sun we're getting now.

By the way, I am sorry that you took what I said the wrong way. It was my fault and I didn't mean to sound bratty, which, looking back at my post, I did sound.

Observation... My Delawares don't roost! I had thought that they usually don't. They sleep on the floor, but I saw them hangin' out in the nest boxes today... Bet they'll sleep in there. I always worry that they'll get pooped on by the hens that are above them, on the roosts.

ETA: Just went out there to check, yep, they're all in one box, not surprisingly!

Kathy, I absolutely adore the pictures that you post of your babies! You really need to be submitting those for the pic of the week dear! Seriously! I've said it before, so don't make me start pestering you about it!

They truly are precious! I wish I could get such great pictures whenever I have babies. But all they want to do is either peck the camera lens or run like the wind and hide anytime they see that evil flashy thingy!

How do you do it woman? I'd give my eyeteeth to know! And what kind of camera are you using? Awesome pictures! Simply awesome!

We had some awesome weather this last weekend. Sunny and highs hovering right around in the mid to upper 50's and very light breezes. Couldn't have asked for better weather for the auction we attended on Saturday. Picked up two 144 count slings of 2x2's, one in 6 foot lengths and the other in 8 footers. Same exact stuff that you can buy at the Home Depot for something like $27+/- for a bundle of 9 [sorry, the exact amount escapes me at the moment, but I seem to recall that's what we paid when we built our Nella Brooder a few months ago] We picked up the two slings for.....drum roll please.... $30 each!!!

That's like 20.5 cents per stick!!

Oh yeah! We got a good deal on those!

Also picked up a rather interesting item....I'll have to post some pictures of this little find later, as it's kind of hard to describe. In a nutshell, it's an oil recovery floor system for automotive repair shops. It consists of four base blocks that have four removable panels per block for cleaning and recovery of the oil and whatnot. We'll be putting that to good use later [hopefully] this summer when we begin construction of the new and improved green house. They'll go down as a self draining floor so that never again will I have to suffer through standing water and mud in my green house!!!

Got that whole shooting match for $130!!

The dimensions are such that, if I place 20-40 inch benches between each block, as well as around three of the four walls, we'll end up with a green house somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 foot by 40 foot.

That should be big enough to put a small wood stove into it for a heat source so that I could continue to grow fresh lettuce and other goodies for the chooks right through the winter. Not to mention maybe some hot house tomatoes for ourselves!

I bet Chief and the girls would love to be able to hang out in there during the day in the winter time!

Anyhow, the good weather didn't stick around for very long, sad to say. Just long enough for us to clean up our auction goodies on Sunday and put them away. We're back to rain mixed with snow for the next three or four days now!

I'm beginning to think we should hold off working on the house and get right on that new green house. We just might need it to survive! Global warming my butt feathers!

Amy, you hit the jackpot at that auction! That is just great!

Global warming? HAHAHAHA ! ! ! We have global wetting here.

These girls are tired of the wet muddy mess, too......

My little project chicks were out free ranging yesterday.

Aint that the truth. Kathy I like the bricks. I could use about a couple doz. and my girls could play froggy. Hopping from brick to brick. Ducks would just love it here.

Finally got to take the queen for a walk. She's growing very fast. We walked passed the creek that has over flowed it's banks. Have to say it broke my heart to see all the trash floating in it. Still the weather is warm near 80* and a cool breeze made it a nice walk. It doesn't get any better than that.

Take care everyone and have a nice day.

Kathy, you have such a beautiful place! Wow! Are you going to live there forever? I think that you should!

I'm sorry about the weather. It's not great here, either.

Forecast for tonight:

Windy with showers and thunderstorms likely. A few storms may be severe, especially this evening. Damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a tornado with some storms. Low 63F. Winds SW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%.

Puhlease y'all. We have been having tornados and tornado warnings ALL DARN DAY. Had to evacuate to the freakin stairwell at work. My sister's work kept them in the basement for 2 hours. Currently at home hoping I don't blow away. Supposed to only get worse too. Sigh.
