Seems like most "non natchery" chicks are a bit ugly as they tend to feather MUCH more slowly. Mine have finally all feathered out except for one, who looks like a turken with barred feathers.....uuuuggggllllyyyy

I am going to blame my chicken math on Kathy since I know her and I'm thinking she is a bad influence on me. Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am struggling with too many breeds also.WHICH ONE TO KEEP????????????I was talking to a breeder a while back and he keeps his roosters in rooster pens during the off season or his extra ones. I'm thinking about doing the same. I guess it wouldn't take much of a pen just add to the chores . Does anybody else do this and does it work out.

I will be happy to help you out with even more breeds, Scott. Just one more service I offer, ya know.

Yes, I do this. I never had a problem with this pen of a dozen boys (pictured). It was a "new environment" to all of them. None of them had ever lived here before. However, NOW I have a pen of 3 boys and one is just a pain in the butt. He is relentless in picking on the other 2.

I think they look like they are wearing striped pajamas.

Just awful ..... the tornado that tore up Joplin. The hospital got hit hard. So far over 100 dead and growing. I am about 45 miles north of Joplin.

Today I moved the broody (SLW) mama out of the (rabbit hutch coop) pen, since she resumed laying and did not want to play mama anymore. I moved the 8 Orp chicks in with another group.

THEN, I moved broody mama BCMarans and her 15 chicks into the rabbit hutch coop apartment. They seem very content already. Rainy and dreary weather here, so I am keeping them locked inside for a few days before letting them come outside.

THEN, I moved the 11 Wheaten Ameraucana chicks into the top of one of the Nella brooders. I had to because I just hatched 60 chicks and they are all inside in the 3 rubbermaid tubs.

OMG, I need to cut down drastically! HELP ! ! ! What am I gonna do when my project girls start laying? I HAVE to hatch those. I need more room..... or, or, or fewer breeds and fewer birds!

Whoopee for next yr. Lets see I love bcmarans, and wheaten ameracuanas. I'm glad you have not slowed down too bad.

I have just gotten the others into the coop. Those two odd ones, have me buffalooed. They have puffy cheeks but the brownish feathers. I wonder if they are the olive eggers?
I have not checked their combs yet but they sure are growing fast. They are as big as the english orp chicks I have. which definitely are wide load carriers.
