You mean this, without the gutter guard on it .... use fencing instead?

Yes. A 10 or 12 foot piece of the plastic gutter is less than 10 bucks at my home depot, I think. I would love to get some, cut it down to run along an entire wall of the coop and then make a wooden board flap that is hinged above it and cab be closed to cover at night.

Where is that picture of your bucket feeders? I can't find it.

About the guttering. That is how my long feeders already look, sorta. Still have waste. I think I will put some wire over it. Not 2x4, but something smaller than that maybe. I gotta try something. The waste around here is ridiculous!

The least waste here is in the Marans pen.

How many broodies do I have, you ask? I have no idea! I quit counting! I do not have room for them all, I know that. I quit setting them up in their own apartments. I am so sick of them I could scream. SICK OF BROODIES! Here are pictures from today. This is not all of them. Some I tossed back into their pens. Others I just left in their pens and took the nests out. They don't care. They continue to just set on the ground .......... ON NO EGGS!

Last week I gave away a Silkie with 17 chicks (all silkies). I can't take it anymore!

I made a bucket feeder similar to Nella's when I was in Oregon....no waste whatsoever in it. They did not have room to get their feet in to scratch it out and it was too deep to pull it out with the beaks.

I am thinking of the gutter or PVC pipe idea in my new interior coop design....still working on it.

Some of the grow outs were out today. Brock was playing horse shoe, and they didn't even budge. He finally quit, so he wouldn't hit one.

Younger ones from the storage garage are let out in the side yard, so they can poop all over the sidewalk.
See the BLRW boy up on the arbor? He is a hoot! He follows us around like a puppy.

Great news this morning!! At least I think so.....time will tell.....Annie and her long time BF Mario are getting back together!!
woot.gif
It completely broke my heart when she called it quits with him almost 4 months ago. Last night, he called to let me know that Papa [Denny] didn't need to make the drive into Cheney to pick her up from the bus station, as he would be driving her home. He spent the night in the guest room!!

Keep your fingers crossed kids!

Annie was always so much happier when she was with Mario. I still can't for the life of me understand why she broke off the relationship with him, but that's between her and Mario. I'm just ecstatic that they're seeing each other again!!!

Gooby has started crowing again. [There's always some dang fly in my ointments it seems. For every thing that goes good, something has to go bad!

] I haven't heard a peep out of him since the day I transferred him and GeeGee into the coop back on April 7th. Yesterday he decided to try his singing voice out on me while I was in the middle of daily chicken chores inside the coop. Startled the crap out of me! I really have to laugh though. His song is identical to what his daddy's was at this same age.

Exactly like Chief did at 17 weeks of age!! The apple don't fall far from the tree ya know!
wink.png
I swear Chief puffed up with pride at the sound of his son trying to crow like a big guy! Please God, please let Chief continue to be proud and tolerant of his son.

It will save me the expense and trouble of building yet another small coop to accommodate him!

Well, time for me to tend to the mongrel hoards, make breakfast for everyone and get those dang cabinets [that we can't use due to wrong size

] loaded up and taken back to Home Depot for a refund. Hope y'all have a great day!

OH, almost forgot: Kathy, just don't feed them for a day. They'll clean up all of that feed they're currently wasting!

It works for me!

Hi Amy!

That is just great news that Mario is back in picture!

I hope it all works out well for the kids!

I KNEW you were gonna fall in love with the Goober, Amy! I just knew it! You are a push over with those boys.
gig.gif
Question though.... can't you just leave more than one boy in your main coop? Why do you need a separate coop for each boy?

It is nearing 100* here today, and I have water pans all over the place for the birds. I gotta say, my most enjoyable group are the grow outs. I just love watching them. They meet me at the gate and run through it. I love it when the all fly across the yard in unison, and then run back the other way. Makes me think they must be pretty happy.

I opened up almost all the gates today. Left the Orps in and the rooster pen closed. Funny how the individual groups all seem to go their own way. Rarely do they interact with each other. Miss Olive is the exception. She is my girl. She travels all over the yard visiting. When I sit on the swing she stays by my side. Sweet girl.
