I have a few and I don't see the point. They don't lay colored eggs even though they were hatched from them.

Mine lay colored eggs! I sent a couple to Amy and she posted a picture of their pretty colored eggs.

Trapped coon #17 last night. This is probably the smallest one we have trapped. I am thinking it probably has brothers and sisters out there somewhere.

Are the Delaweggers at least friendly and nice birds unlike the satanic EEs we've tried? Vile, mean birds. But if they were nice birds who lay pretty eggs....

Will have to ask Amy how friendly they are. I sent mine to her. Delawares, of course, are the friendliest breed ever created!

The darn things just keep on coming. I can't believe we have trapped this many! OMG, when will this end? I just worry every night that they will not stop at the traps and will try to break into a coop or something. I hope my coops are all secure enough to keep them out.

If they come from a blue egg laying mama or daddy, and have a pea comb, the daughters should lay green eggs. Junebug may lay brown since she inherited a single comb, but her sister, Hedwig, was going to be a green egg layer (pea combed), if she had lived. She died with her first eggs still inside, sadly.

Pea combs and blue egg gene are closely related. For instance, Junebug is the daughter of my Delaware rooster and my EE, June, but rather than inherit the pea comb of her mother, she inherited the comb of her sire, which means she probably didn't inherit the blue egg gene from mama, and would be more likely to lay a brown egg of her daddy's breed than the blue/green egg of her mama. If she had inherited the pea comb of her mama, she would have also inherited the blue egg gene, most likely. Hope that helps.

So it's not a guaranteed thing, it's just likely? Like the self-blue being close to the fray gene?

I just think the Dels are cute. Same way I think the Sussex are cute also, but have yet to meet one who isn't a spaz.

Well, so far, most of the Delaweggers have had a pea comb and laid green eggs so it's pretty likely. Junebug and one of her brothers did have single combs so probably don't carry the blue egg gene.

Oh, Ladyhawk, here is the blue baby! It's a medium-light blue, I guess. Hard to say till it can get in good daylight, but it's definitely not dark! I put four of Dusty's eggs in the bator so maybe, just maybe, I can get a couple more for you before the end of the month.
