Correct. The adults beards (males) should be solid black on the Wheatens and blue on the BWs.
I've seen mine change at 6 months...others not until over a year

Love the clean hackles and near solid tail on him....and the full body on such a young pullet

How the heck do you get them to hold still and pose for you? Great pics

My chickens have manners. They do whatever I ask them to. I told them I needed a wedding photo and they obliged.

Hey Jeremy, it's small progress, but I am happy as long as I am making progress...
Besides some males with clean hackles, I have a pullet that's getting better for tail
color. Woo hoo!

The one on the right of course...

Luanne, I wish so much I had a boy of yours growing out, the three pullets I have are beautiful too though.

One is light, one is medium colored (darker hackles, light body) and the third is dark overall, there are things that I like about each of them. No eggs yet... my favorite one Honker, the lightest girl, squats whenever I come within 2 feet of her... so hopefully soon.

Jeremy, I grow out lots of cockerels. Some are obvious culls and some have turned out very nice...but I can only use so many.
I'd be happy to send you a nice one next year (most of this years have already found new homes).
Just say the word and send me a box and I'll ship you one.

Thankfully even the culls have been easy to re home on CL. People just want them for yard candy or the
blue egg gene. I have put a few cockerels in the freezer, but don't think I could with any of the Wheaties. They are just
so sweet

Anytime I could help out someone else working with these and save them from becoming someone's meal would be awesome

Oh, I have a few "honkers" too...what's up with that? Crazy sounds coming from such feminine birds

Brandon BBS, white what? LOL Bator humming along again eh

I will be getting more Russian Orloff eggs in the Spring as the PO decided to use the box to play soccer apparently but I have one hatched that still had some yolk to absorb but seems like is doing okay. I also have one other pipped so hopefully it will hatch so I do not have a lone chick to raise but I am not holding out much hope for the others that went into lockdown, I had little hope for them prior to lockdown but we shall see. Official hatch day begins tonight about midnight so this little guy was in a hurry to get here. hahahaha

Some pics from last evening before the birds went to bed

Brandon- Silkies? Now i have to say that surprises me

Kathy - i know its wrong but i acutally like the beard on that boy- makes him look distinguished! Or like me as every day i find more and more greys in my beard - grrrr - so i know how he feels!

LH - sorry about the Orloff - i was so excited for that hatch-

I finally timed my faverolle rooster- he crowed the other morning NON STOP mind you for 37 minutes ----

From what i have learned tho this is an old very nice line of birds - they are known to be vocal - really ? you could have fooled me!?!?!?

I know nothing about Wheatens, except to say that those birds are GORGEOUS. I love the beards.

LH, sorry about the O's, but hopefully in the spring!

Knox, what time in the morning does he start? Maybe he just wants you out of bed and attentive to his feed bowl!

Well thing is i pretty much keep food in their bowl in their coop- he starts at a reasonable time when the sun is coming up- its jsut that once he starts and doesnt stop. Not a crow here or there or every five minutes - one after another another!
Finally i picked him up one day ---stopped minute his lil feet hit the ground - CROW CROW lol

Cyn, I fired up the CTTM for that first picture of Nugs with her new Del chick, and.....

OMG! The thoughts those two are having! Scary! Veeeerrrrrry scary!
