The big blue boy wanted his Knockout scratch this morning. He was singing while he ate it. He's been crowing since about 3 a.m., sometimes sounding better than others, but still, he's crowing. He just sounds a little hoarse more than anything. This situation is why I tell people they need to be sure their birds' overall health is really good, so they have the reserves to fight infection when it happens. He's just up there in age now and for his size, I think he's, in effect, pretty old for a rooster. Bantams tend to be the ones we see living up to ripe old ages, not usually these huge guys.

. That's my big blue studmuffin ...he just needs more tlc and a few days longer to heal because he is PERFECT and DESERVES IT!

He's still not out of the woods, but that boy is a fighter. I think it will just take him longer than anticipated to kick out the pneumonia. It is going down into the low to mid 20's tonight, but then slowly over the next couple of days, night temps will get higher. By then, I hope he can go back with his girls. He'll be thrilled to see his new lady laying, I know.

Just how chilly does it get there?

"You made 'em you can take care of 'em" gramma used to say. Course she only said that if we asked her to babysit.

Smart gramma you had there!

It got down in the 20s last night. Today should warm up to around 55. It is now up to 40. I do like the milder winters (compared to our home in Iowa) in Missouri. Could always be worse.

Cyn!

I'm so happy [and relieved] to hear that the big blue ball of fluff is doing better this morning!!

He's such a special guy. He just has to get well! We all know they can't live forever, but dang it, five is just too young to cross the bridge!!
rant.gif
He should only be considered middle age in my book! Please keep us posted on his progress.

Tim, those girls are looking nice! And some of your boys don't look too shabby either!

Nella, I love that picture of Cowboy with his babies! Such a proud papa!

I can hardly wait for the day when my girls figure out that spring and summer is the time to raise chicks, and not WINTER!

I know in my heart that Chief will be an awesome daddy when they're still itty bitty little things. After all, he has been great with older chicks!

I so love my big mutt boy!

LH, my sympathies on the molar issue. I have a mouth full of rotten teeth that need tending too, but until I get caught up on other things, they tend to take a back seat to everything else. That and I'm just a big wuss when it comes to dental visits. I don't like the pain and I sure as heck don't like the lectures. The last dentist to go poking around in my mouth got a lecture from me about how I am a grown woman and don't need a lecture from him on how badly I have neglected my mouth!

If it weren't so dang expensive, [and freaking painful ] I'd have them all pulled and get dentures!

Kathy, just how cold has it been getting at night at your place? We got down to 28 ourselves last night. Thankfully, the minuscule amount of snow that fell was well to the east of us.

Whew! For all that I love snow, I'm just not ready for it yet this year! Anytime after Thanksgiving would be fine with me!

That fantastic man of mine finished up the framing and doors and such of the duplex coop yesterday. All that is left to do is the partition fencing, put on the cedar shingles on the outside, put in shavings on the inside and stuff some birds in there! With any luck, I'll finish it all up and have Milio and his girls in one side and all of my extra boys in the other by bedtime. And not a moment too soon I might add! We're forecast to get as much as an inch of snow tonight!

Pictures will be forthcoming as soon as I get everything else done. Hope y'all have a great day my friends!

Kathy - it's cold here too, my legs hurt so I gotta turn on the heat. Or stick them in the oven.

Our bathroom is the warmest but there's not TV or computer in there. Nor a recliner.

Serrin - of course they look nice the orps are from Jody. Hers are even nicer. They did take come time for the girls to lay though.

Cyn - I hope the o' guy pulls through. I think we become so attached to the roos cuz there are only a few of them that we can keep. They're usually the only ones with names around here.

LH - sorry about your teeth. Hope you've got a good dentist there. You know what they say, "a bad tooth is like a crying baby in church, they both need to be taken out."

Funny how I can remember these sayings but darned if I can remember where I put my glasses. One day I was running all over the house looking for them and when I took my bathrobe off there they were hanging on the neck of my T-shirt.

Take care folks,

Rancher
