Ya'll apparently need to move to Ohio - nothing BUT flat - would love to have some rolling something! Cyn lets trade! I ll take yours and you come take mine!

No, thanks, Knox. We lived in Dayton, Ohio for almost 12 years at Wright-Patterson AFB. Worst weather of any place we've ever been. 25 below zero temps, plus ice and snow, not for me anymore. I really don't like flat land, slightly rolling green hills would be a good compromise over what we have now. I'm scared of flooding! At least here, there is absolutely NO danger of that.
The perfect solution would be a flattish property sitting up on a hill, as long as the entire property itself was all easily accessible/walkable. Mine isn't really bad, as mountain land goes-I walked my dog down our trails the other day, what's left of them after no cutting for almost 3 years, all the way down to the bottom-but it's property I rarely see unless I get my ratstompers on for support and am ready to get winded.

You know I love you, but better you than me. I was talking of getting rid of all the chickens and moving to AL for the winter, but couldn't do it.

I'm glad we haven't gotten it yet though some in the state have gotten "feet" of snow. I've got chicks coming from NC on Tuesday, but then I've gotten chicks in February. Swedish Flower Hens and Birchen Marans.

I've been saving my money.

I have to ask , I haven't seen Scott here. Is he ok?

Scott posted a couple of days ago, Tim. He's fine, just very, very busy. I miss him on here, too! He's an integral part of SDWD, not to mention he started this thread.

Tim, if you move to AL, you have to come visit me. I may be here, or I'll be an hour or so north in TN.

Yes Cyn well you know the wonderful and ever so unpredictable and changing Ohio weather - i like the season changes but we get the raw end of the deal alot of times

I couldn't leave DW even for the winter. That would be like leaving my right arm. It's hard to find a good woman or one that won't kill after an hour.

But she does say there is hope when she retires in two years.

If you move down here, Tim, we are going to HAVE to have an SDWD get together somewhere, so everyone start saving your pennies! Get an SDWD jar going.

Tim, I so envy you those Swedish Flower hens- I think they are just delightful!

Flat land....oh how I wish I had some.......my yard is treacherous.....I slip and slide, even wearing my big rain boots.

Flooding? Not a worry in my mind. Neighbors would be underwater to their roof before I had problems.

Having lived on the banks of the Nisqually River in years gone by, I can vouch for the not so fun aspects of riverfront/flood plain living. You just never know when Mother Nature is going to pull a sneaky on you and inundate everything you own! [as in 1996] Let's just say that 3 feet deep water in ones living room is NOT conducive to entertaining!

I much prefer my high desert country to the river bottoms!

Our hills right here at the property are minor and nothing we can't handle. Snow is not a problem either. As I explained to Kathy last night, it's a dry cold here. The snow is usually like powdered sugar!

Light and easy to shovel!

Hey! I have a bright idea! Why don't y'all move up here!?!? Lots of room, lots of land available cheap, and a lot of it is down right pretty!

Cyn,
TN is a beautiful state. esp up around the Johnson city area. It is rolling hills, while keeping the mtn weather no less. I almost bought a place up there before I moved to
Franklin. Some times because of my hill and all this work here I am still tempted. I have friends here that I would miss terribly now. All my property is on a slant. Pretty but hard to mow. I guess we all could find a place that would suit us better , esp with chickens Gloria Jean
