Glad it arrived! Did you see the personal label on the back? And do you know what it is? Technically, it's a table topper. I put them under crystal bowls or under glass candle dishes so the design shows through, but you can use it any way you like. LH said you liked green. It's my favorite color so this was a pleasure to make. And after TWO surprise packages from you over the last year, I had to get you something.

I am worn out. Saw the foot Dr today. Things look good and stitches will come out next week. After the appointment my sister took me to finish shopping and to get some groceries.

I don't know about anyone else, but in my book, handmade gifts are the very, very best gifts in the whole world! Anyone can go and buy something off of the shelf. But when you hand make a gift, there is a lot of love and thought that goes into it. You just don't get that with a store bought item. And I don't care if the item was purchased from the discount table at WalMart or from the most expensive boutique in town. Hand made gifts are PRICELESS!!!

I am happy to report that Dottie has made a successful transition back to coop and flock!!

Things have gotten considerably quieter out here in the pump house now. Who knew that Dottie was such an instigator of the Chatty Patty Club!?!

Anyhow, I went through my records tonight. Goobey was 9 weeks old when I moved him and GeeGee out to the coop last winter, and I had kept Charlotte another 2 weeks past that. So, I figure, Cleo will be old enough in about another 2-3 weeks to join the flock. I can't begin to tell you all how much I'm looking forward to that!!!

Note to self: NO more broodies allowed in the dead of winter!!! Mother Nature wouldn't allow it in her woods. Therefore I shan't allow it in my coop!?!

Sounds like famous last words to me!

Reba didn't poop last night. Tom gloved and oiled up and checked. Her vent is almost closed off and it appears to us that whatever is in the oviduct is pinching off the intestines. There is really no hope here. He'd touch a spot inside and it was obviously very painful for her. I removed her food and gave her some molasses in her water to make whatever feces were in there more liquid, hoping they could pass, but this is really not good. I do wish I could lay her beautiful head on a stump and just get it over with. Why can't I do that for her?? I'm such a failure. She is so alert and bright eyed and trusting and I just cannot do it. Abject failure.

ETA: I guess the main reason I can't is that Ivy rallied twice, even laying eggs again, and Reba came back from this very thing before. What if we culled too soon?

Sweetheart at my age I know life is like a book , one never knows what's in the next chapter. Everything can change and sometimes it is better. As for the kids they just need to learn they can make it through troubled times, just like we did.

My other DD is the sole bread winner in their's cuz she is a teacher and he couldn't find a job. It's hard when your over 30 I think. He's from the UK and has a Bachelors but , such is life. They are doing fine though. Except that they are in TX and we miss Henry the baby. SIL is now a stay at home Dad and they seem to be making it work. These days it's hard to find a job if your a man. They can hire a woman for less and even less if it's a kid. Ladies you gotta start demanding more money.

Now I will say about the 1588 Cyn, recommended it and Iv'e not been disappointed. Usually only a couple don't hatch. I candle at day 14 and toss the duds. I've gotten pretty good too. Though most are my own eggs. I ordered from Incubator Warehouse cuz they were the cheapest. Only thing is the turner had a broken row and Cyn's Del eggs were here and I couldn't wait for a new one.

Which is good as it limits my hatches. Good garden o' peas, I have enough chickens.

Now since this is a DELAWARE site, I have to say, I have a friend who had 100 birds, a mix of GC's and RIR's and he got rid of them all cuz he was getting 10 eggs a day. Well I have 29 , half are Dels the others Orps, EE's and RIR's and my best day last week was....... 21

The Dels are 1 and 2 years old. I do have one that is trying to go broody. Can't have that. I've 8 Birchen Marans and 8 SFH's in two brooders. Not to mention 2 SLW's and 10 BR's not yet laying.

Kathy, I've been praying for no snow and I won't be surprised if it's answered. This weather is great and I've plans to go out and plant the Crocus bulbs I bought. In December!
