Awwwww, Kathy, I miss that around here. Dottie is still clucking, but not setting. She really shouldn't for a couple of weeks, though, then she can go psycho if she is still interested.

I have never seen anything like this, Cyn. She started sitting on Dec. 22. She should have hatched on January 12. She, instead, is hatching on Jan 16-17. Have you ever heard of this? She is in the storage garage, and the weather has not even been that cold.

Good luck with talking Dottie into waiting!

My broody Wheaten Ameraucana has hatched 5. There is still one more Marans egg under her. One chick (of the 5) is dead. There is a wet new hatch, looks like a chipmunk color, still under her.

My broody is so dehydrated. Remember when Mary's (The Sheriff, AKA The Warden) broody was lookin' all bad? That is exactly how this girl looks. Look at her eyes, all dark. She has one more egg under her. I will remove it in the morning, if it is not hatched. Anyway, she hatched 5 and 1 was found dead.

I am thinking the yellow chick must have come from an Easter Egger egg, from the layers coop. Daddy could be anyone!

Poor little thing. You gotta admire that kind of determination though. And the chicks look positively darling. Sure hope she rebounds quickly, Kathy.

Keep us posted on how she does please. You know how much I love mama girls, especially the Amer or EE mama's. There's just something so sweet about their faces.

Broody mama is a new bird this morning! She gobbled up scrambled eggs with various spices. I dosed her with Poultry Nutri-Drench last night, via syringe. She and the chicks are active and appear to be doing well now.

I was really worried last night.

I am very sure on my dates. I went back and checked some old posts. I posted a picture of her on her eggs on Dec 24, saying she began setting on Dec. 22..... as a reminder to myself. I have just never seen eggs hatch so late before, especially broody hatched! Poor girl has been setting for a month. She had been broody in the layers coop for a few days before I moved her and some fresh eggs, into a broody pen.

I wish I had taken my camera out there with me. It was so cute. Mama had egg on her beak, and 3 chicks were like up on their tippy toes eating it off her beak. Dang, it was cute.
