Thank-you everyone for the Delaware input! A few of my first hens had feather eating issues when they started to lay. BYC was a great source of protein options for the problem. There are still a couple that can not resist new pin feathers. I have been concerned about a Del's energy level and possible foraging skills on others if they were not able to get enough free range time. They sound like such great characters! It would be really nice to bring in a few young pullets now that most of the flock is 3 years old.

LH, Roseburg is the nearest 'big' town to me. That's a little ways north of were you used to live? I agree with you about the cougars and chickens. I have not heard of any problems between the two. Our neighbor however lost their milk goat to a young male cougar last year. The goat was unfortunately an easy but deadly meal for the cougar. Game cameras on the creek catch pictures time to time of another one passing through.

85 degrees in Mich?! We are slogging through another week of heavy rain. Flood warnings are in effect with this latest storm system. The chickens will be growing webbing between their toes anytime now.

I know Roseburg well, my husband did his rehab in White City at the VA there following his medical retirement from the Army following a head injury. Oh I know about goaties and cougars...I snatched a baby goat away from a cougar not long after moving to Oregon....did not think about that first, just sort of reacted...luckily it worked out okay and both goatie and I survived it.

Get some Delaware really they are a hoot! Too much personality for one small body, totally a mess and totally fun.

Cyn, I like those a lot....I shall not tell you how do jack lady...I completely trust your judgment so make it the way you like it and I will love it and so will the baby when he is delivered. :)

I know exactly what I did wrong and I can remake them and do it the way I originally envisioned or add a dark purple sashing, which will also look great and add a third color in there, like this, or leave them side by side for a lightning streak effect with the yellow:

(They're easy to make so no biggie-just tell me which look you'd prefer. Yes, you tell me!)

Where to begin.

HH - sorry bout your girl. I got some BR's hens and one of them think she can just go off into the woods field next door. I hate to keep them in the run cuz it's so nice here, but she just makes me crazy. (no comments allowed Kathy)

Which brings me to that stupid rooster. He has flogged me more than once and I swear if I had kept the other two this guy would be done up and in the freezer in a heart beat. He's really nice looking too.

Cetawin - my DB moved to NC , Franklin area and complains it's so far to the VA where he is. 75 miles.

Now I like my Dels as you know but these girls have not laid well for some time and I'm getting ready to save eggs and replace them all. Of course some are the originals so I expect that. The others are not and they better pick up. The chicks are hatching that are in the incu now but only 14 are Dels and 10 of those are promised to a guy. That means another hatch and I really don't want to do another. It will just have to be all Dels.

Cyn, don't like the purple with the blue. (Not sure you meant for me to comment) Maybe a green but not purple. Or without it all together. Is this going to be for sale? How big and how much? I tried quilting once but just can't get into it. DW sews but Lord have mercy I got two pair of pants need hemming and so does DD. I'll be dead it she don't get a move on. I'm working on getting her a sewing room just for her to have every thing set up. She'd have one if the kids would quit moving back home.

Well folks take care, love ya,

Rancher

You know, Tim, I also thought about a dark green, too, but my gut feeling is to just redo the blocks the way they should have been in the first place and not be so lazy, LOL. I can use these two in something later for sale (this is for Ladyhawk to give as a gift to a friend of hers who is expecting a baby).

Well I might be expecting a baby you know.

Bet that was the last thing that cougar ever expected LH! Good job saving the baby goat! Years ago I volunteered at the Roseburg VA with my therapy dogs.

Cyn the quilt is beautiful. This color combination has a wonderful pop.

Rancher, one of the best mini cures for Edgar's flogging was a dish soap bubble bath. (I do believe there is a very good description of how to do this somewhere on BYC

) 2 of the hens had plucked his butt bloody and were stalking him. Piece of cake bathing him but it was 5 pm in January, he needed to be dry before going back to the coop. The hens love the blow dryer, Edgar kept over heating every 5 minutes and had to cool off. It took about 2 hours to get him dry enough. Yep, it was a lot of work but he did not make eye contact with me for weeks. He lost one spur when he exchanged pleasantries with the other roo through a fence. That cooled him down some. The remaining spur grew into about an 180 curve, it was starting to curve back to his leg. After much thought DH and I removed it a couple of weeks ago. Again it was a very good attitude adjustment for Edgar. Good luck!

LOL Tim so when is your baby due, my friend looks like a delivery date of April 5th? hehehehehe

Cyn, I do agree with Tim, not too keep the purple with the blues.

peepacheep...as yes that is my daughter's rooster rehabilitation program....did you use Lavender scented and give edgar his bath in front of his women and the other roo? That is the key to the clean humiliation.

It works though doesn't it.
