Egg is pipped under my Phoenix. It belongs to Carly. The only other egg she has is Maretta's, a chick sired by Isaac. Tomorrow is Day 21.

I hope the chickens enjoyed free ranging today since they may not get to anymore. I really like watching them roaming around the yard however so does the wildlife. I lost another hen today from right behind the house. DH found it way in the woods with only a couple of puncture wounds. We thought maybe a hawk got it but then later I found the feathers behind the house alongside this paw print. Strange that the hen got carried so far from the house and then left. You can see where he slid a bit as this was on a steep embankment. Darn it all

So sorry to hear that, Laura. Predators make it hard to free range, that's for sure. I hope you don't lose any more.

Laura, that was definitely canine, I'd say, from seeing the claw marks. I'm so sorry. I really hate that.

Has anyone ever had a hen that crows?

My favorite Speckled Sussex Hen Amazon has developed a spur on one leg. She hasn't crowed yet. But she has beaten up roosters she did not like, killed and eaten snakes and mice, tried to beat a hawk off her brood (she cried for hours after the hawk took her baby anyway, saddest sound I ever heard). I do not expect her to crow as we do have roosters around.
