No NHs? Or will you put them in the layers pen? Did you already sell your pretty Brahmas? That male is looking really awesome.

I'm so worried about Isaac. He seems okay most of the time, but eggs that started development quit. Most didn't even develop at all, not even June's. I was left with one lone egg at Day 11 in the bator and last night, just turned it off to stop development and let it go-it was Maretta's. I had no desire, and neither did LH, to deal with a lone chick. Ike's lung capacity is certainly diminished and his vigor in general may be compromised, if these quitters were any indication.

I will keep some New Hampshires, Barred Rocks, and others, but I am not going to keep them penned for breeding. I am just gonna enjoy them. My plan, at this point, is to only hatch projects. I still have the Brahmas, but won't keep them all.

I love these chickens, too!

Cyn, sorry about Ike.

Kathy, those are some pretty birds.

Wow Kathy I do love those Brahmas and SLWs...beautiful!

Cyn....I gotta think of a name for that boy....crowing so early bless his heart. Make sure Suede teaches him the Deep Crow...no high pitched sissy sounds now. Poor Ike....I sure am gonna worry about him when the weather gets really warm :(

Cyn, so sorry about all the lossing and sick ones. Ike is still young, you would think he would be healthier. It has been very humid though.
Last week I was enundated with guinnes from next door , this morning it was a big ole Rabbit. He even came up on my deck and lay down in the sun to take a snooze.
He was easy for the owner to catch. I wish the guinnes were that easy. They about drive me crazy part of the time. This morning a fox got after them. One flew to the top of a very tall light pole nearby. I could not beleive they could fly so high. I guess my dream of putting up a 6 ft. ,2x4 wire fence between me and them will not help at all. sigh! Other peoples animals. I have three more days till my eggs in my bator are suppose to hatch. I have 22 in there. All were developing. I hope they hatch. Dels, NH, and bcms. There are also 8 under a broodie hen that are the same age and types. She is a sweet broodie , one of my BR from Kathjy. She sure is fluffy enough to cover them good. Hope all goes well for Ike. gloria Jean

Gloria Jean, Isaac was fine up until last summer when he had the bad fungal infection, as did some of the older hens. You remember how long it was super hot and humid, completely not like our normal summers here in the mountains. Our birds had never experienced that and wetting down the pens constantly was part of the problem. Won't do that again this summer, no matter how hot it gets. Isaac has never been as heat tolerant as big old Suede.

Guineas can fly 50 ft in the air and more than that in distance. They are superb fliers, though they usually decide to run instead.

Cyn, how is Miranda?

I got my first spraddle leg chick. She got the bandaids on. She's hobbling around. I just have to make sure she eats and drinks.

Some updates from the Menagerie'

The one handed Junebug Hold...I am sure this will not be effective in the NFL but around here it is a constant scene along with hugs

The Zena Hug - a daily (several times per day actually) requirement

Sunbathing on the deck....Addie

Junebug looking ratty (sssshhhhh she thinks she is beautiful, clean and has perfect feathers)

Just for Speckledhen because her eyes have not burned in a few days *smirk*

Lap full of LGD (who was very jealous of the Taco Bell Beast in my lap for most of the movie). At two and a half years old we are still working on the whole "be outside guarding the critters" thing, he has never caught on to the 'be a dog' thing. *sigh*
