Kathy, as always... beautiful chickens. The bluish grey ones must be the olive eggers? They are really pretty.

Sem, congrats! All girls??? Wow!


I saw something strange and alarming this morning when I let the chickens out of the coops. In the black coop [BA's and JG's] there was a large spot of bright red blood on the dropping board! I checked everyone over and did not find anything bleeding. I went to look at the blood and there was a large dark mass almost like a soft shelled egg with the blood all around and on it. Any ideas what it could be? Everyone is acting fine.

Laura, could have been that a hen was straining because a soft shelled egg is harder to expell than one with a good shell and she burst a vessel. Probably just a glitch.



Kathy, it's been said that Stukel males are better cocks than cockerels. They are really, really slow to fill out so they won't look anything like the final product until they are a year old. Rex took literally forever to grow into his legs!

I am thinking of keeping one of those three boys and having a quad of Mille d'Anvers for breeding and letting Rufus keep his d'Uccle women. But we will see. These Milles could be split to lavender if Cyn's porcelains are the daddy.

Then come the designer babies....Coch'anvers. Cyn and I are creating this breed. d'Anvers over bantam lavender cochin (aka The Purple Princess)...

She has her eye on everything around here...namely Cheyenne right now. She is making sure that girl does not sneak away again!





Kathy...there may be a problem with the babies you sent me. You sent 10...three OEs and 7 silkies (porcelains and paints). Of course there is an OE boy, Maxwell and 2 girls BUT in the silkies.....I cannot find a BOY!

I swear I think I have 7 girls...this will make for an issue in breeding Kathy. LOL I keep hoping someone surprises me but it ain't looking too good so keep your fingers crossed or I will be looking for two roos. A paint and a porcelain.

I will get pics of the Silkies and OE girls when this rain moves away.
