If Isaac keeps allowing him to stay, he stays. That is, as long as he is as sweet as his dad. So far, he's a good boy, but then, he's only about to turn 12 weeks old and the hormones haven't kicked in yet.

Ike turned dark and couldn't catch his breath today, so this summer should be a trial for him. It wasn't even hot yet.

Meg has a bad case of bumblefoot in her worst foot and is in Zane's cage; over her in the dog crate is Emily, who has a sore hock and under them both in the broody pen is Nugget on Day 17 today. Dusty is still in the bottom nest in the coop with five eggs under her, so poor Suede has lost 3 of his 4 hens for a couple of days, till Meg's foot is less critical. I didn't want her walking around much so I wanted her in that cage for at least two days.

I'll move Nugget with her baby into the grow out coop, vacated by Gideon and Dru, and move Dusty into the broody pen for more room and more air flow as soon as Nugget is in the other side.

Helen Killer gave up her baby tonight. She was with her all day, but at roost time (it was kinda funny) she kept running back and forth - looking at her old home (the layers coop) and looking at the garage (where she was brooding). Back and forth, back and forth. In the end, as we were locking up, she went r u n n i n g - to the layers coop. The chick followed, stood at the doorway chirping for only a couple minutes, and then ran home. Poor thing, all alone. I scooped it up and put it in a brooder with 8 other chicks.

Well, at least she just left rather than try to kill it like Dusty has been known to do. From now on, I'll think of Dusty as the Mommie Dearest of broody hens. And yes, she is brooding eggs. Tom thinks she needs to do it at her age or it's bad for her health, so here we go again. She really is good at the hatching part and the first little while of teaching them stuff. We just never know when she'll turn into Joan Crawford.

Cyn, Gideon really is a sweetheart! I love the pics!

Kathy, that is a wonderful pic of Kayson!

So far I have a total of 14 new chicks. 6 olive eggers, 1 Delaware, 5 NH's and 2 Delaweggers.

Nugget is on Day 19 Friday with her one egg. Seems to be still going strong.

Aimee is on Day 8 tomorrow and Carly on Day 7 along with Dusty. I really don't need anymore chicks, period. As you can see, I put up a breeding pair of D'Anvers on BST. May keep Molly's little guy for awhile longer if they sell.

Anybody want to buy my entire flock? I'm bushed.

They really are alot of work. Too much work some days. Get some rest, and it will be a better day tomorrow.
