The problem I've found with vetwrap is that it tightens, especially if it gets wet. It's even worse on birds with big fat feet like Meg. We use it on occasion, but only over a cushy strip of bandage we've cut from some old soft stretchy shirt so it can't tighten down and cut off circulation.

I agree it's easier to treat when it comes to a head, but there again, can be a problem. It can go systemic and kill the bird, so it's a little scary sometimes, waiting for it to come up to the surface.

Kathy, those are really nasty! Poor Lucille had a scab that covered the whole bottom of her foot. I removed it. But I always think maybe I should leave it because it's protective. I have so far had all my successes with slitting from the top.

I wish poor Addie's would fester up like that at least then I could see where to cut. Her scab on the toe and pad are so small so I get very little out each time I remove it and dig around. If you look back at the pic of her foot there is no clear "head" to know where to cut and I am literally cutting in the dark and getting only clean blood, except for the two tiny scabs. Grrrrrr

I sold four pairs of Dels today so I'm happy about that.

I can't sell a darn thing. Been trying to sell pairs of breeding Belgian D'Anvers in colors no one can get at any hatchery in the country for quite some time--no dice. Can't give away my Delawegger cockerel.

I would take Gideon if I had anywhere for him but as I have a little growing look-a-like named Zilla....I could give Gideon some one-on-one time Sir Lancelot who would gladly instruct young buck on how the ladies around here are to be treated and those teenaged hijinxs ain't it. LOL

I have the same number of birds as I had when I woke up this morning. But...there is one hatching in the bator now. hahahaha not what I had in mind.

This evening we proceed with the next round of soaking and cutting on Addie...poor girl growls at me now when she hears my voice. She is very very tired of my attention.

With all these broodies I'm sure to be giving away chicks soon, keeping only a few Dels. I gave away 10 hens this spring and regret it, if only to get what few eggs I could to hatch. With all due respect I'm not happy with the PH line, but I will keep some of the pullets to cross (maybe) with your Uncle George next spring.

Some of my broodies don't do well hatching and my BR in the hoop coop yielded one healthy chick out of 6 viable eggs but I expect that was due to the heat. Lord have mercy it got to over 100 a couple of days in that coop.

What did you find wrong in the PH line, Tim? One thing I noticed at one point in a photo on their website was wing carriage, but they seemed meaty enough. Haven't seen many of them, though.
