Hello all,

After hearing some ominous egg laying sounds from under the porch for a few days, I commissioned a search and rescue team made up ex seal team 6 and professional cave divers. The picture below says it all. My question, how to prevent this behavior? I have 8 chickens and and 3 nesting boxes but they always want to lay in the same nesting box.

Thanks in advance for the responses.

That's quite the find. You will need to block access to that area off or lock your hens up to retrain them.

You have enough nestboxes as long as your submissive hen isn't being bullied away from them by more dominant hens. This happens more in smaller coops. Add some fake eggs to all the boxes to encourage birds to use them all.

That's quite the egg-hiding conspiracy you had going on under there, although a bit early for Easter! Put jelly beans in the nests so the bunny knows where to lay the eggs so you can find them! :lau Just kidding. Easter bunnies don't lay eggs! But, shhh! Don't tell the kids!
