Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

Josie they are in 3' x 4' and 4' x 4' floor brooders. Bedded with pelleted horse stall bedding, food/water and heat lamps over head as needed. The brooders are framed 2x4's and walls are window screen. They can all see us coming and going as we do chores in the brooder house, or get feed for the other birds. I kneel down at the front of the brooders when I talk to them.

Ash I keep all waterfowl on the Mazuri waterfowl starter feed until their feathers start coming in. When I see wing feathers they are switched to Mazuri waterfowl maintenance (14% protein). All goslings from 5 days old on are outside all day long on grass with water, but no feed. They are put back in their brooders at night with water and feed available all night for them. This is to help reduce the chance of angel wing when the feathers are growing in.

hey all im just wondering when you guys switch from chick starter to grower? right now their getting half n half due that their with the parents. their two weeks old as of today.
I like flockraiser when I can find it. If not, I do 1/2 layer and 1/2 chick starter too. I've never lost any babies or had any get ill due to the little bit of med in the chick start.

My babies form Kim finally arrived! Will get some pics in a little bit

We don't have Mazuri here, and none of the feed shops can get it. I put my ducklings (and soon the goslings) in a playpen on wheat grass during the day. Not only does it get them grazing early, but it saved LOTS of time cleaning brooders.
The adult geese here that are raising thier own young bring them off the nest within 2 days, and show them how to eat grass and even sand. Its so cute- I could almost see a video with voice over "Now THIS is the good grass over here....Stay away from that side of the garden- too many of those dumb chickens"

Celtic could you possibly post some pictures of your brooders? I am thinking about making a stall in our old barn into a brooder and I would love some Ideas

Thank you Celtic! This is so helpful! Also, last night I went into my garage (my brooder house) and said a high "morning babies" and they goslings went crazy! It was so cute, even Kippie was talking up a storm!

I love them so much!

Daze too cute! Glad you are enjoying them all. Will send you a quick message later today to check in on everyone. Have to call in about an hour for shipping approval for today.

Amy.... I can so hear a goose voice (like Charlottes web) talking to the babies and how they must at all cost avoid the crazy chickens.

Daze we use the Fluckers brand and can only get them (or seen them atleast) in one wattage. No idea what it is, has been forever since I bought one at the local store. I love them because there is no light, and no worry with water being slung and a bulb exploding.

Will look at one later and see of the wattage is listed on it for you.
