Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

I just separated my three pairs into their breeding pens yesterday, but no eggs yet down here! Impatiently waiting

If your ganders are too interested in what's going on in the other pen, you might want to put some tarps up between them.

Looks like they could get their heads in between that wire and still fight. :(

I have extra tarps just in case, but so far they aren't bothered with each other. I made sure to put each boy with his favorite girl, so as of now everyone seems content!

These pics are from when we built it a little over a year ago. It has turned out really well, but I will be closing the end off pretty soon to block more of the North/South wind. I wanted something with plenty of ventilation to allow things to dry out. We are no stranger to wet down here in the South, so that was a priority for me.

There is one large coop/run out the left side, and 4 smaller coop/runs out the right side.

I love it. Thanks for sharing!!

I have side by side pens too with 2x4 wire. I put shade cloth 3 ft tall on it. But the new lilac girl from Celtic paces the fence terribly. She is alone with a white seb gander. (only a pair in this pen) It's like she wants to be with more geese. One day she even got on the other side of the fence! The only thing I can figure is that she went under. In one spot the fence is like 1 inch off the ground. Can they squeeze under that small of a spot? How long can I expect new geese to get used to each other and new pens? They have grass and a pool. Is there anything else I can give them to distract them from being nervous?

I will be PMing you after we finish dinner.

in the short term do you have another goose available you can place in the pen too?

have you watched to see why the lilac is pacing or if there is interest in another bird in another pen?

Our Peaches (Lilac) paces and pines for a gander she isnt with, she did the same thing last year and at her previous home too. She always wants who isnt in with her.

Does that cloth go all the way down your fence? It looks like there is a spot of exposed fence towards the back. It's crazy to watch, but they CAN climb that wire if they really want to get to the other side.

Well my daughter just came to tell me that she watched Toffee launch off that little hill in the pen and flew/jumped over the 4 ft fence!! The gander in the next pen was breeding and he honked and Toffee flew right out of the pool, up the hill and over the fence into the pasture where the chickens and ducks free range. Not into the next goose pen. I do know that the gander she is with is trying to breed her and I don't think she likes it. She also doesn't like to be locked up with him at night, but I don't see any evidence of her being abused by him. Not sure what she wants!

I can pull another goose from my white pen, but there are 3 geese and 2 ganders and so it would make the ratio worse and she would be very upset to be moved away from her family. But if you think that is best, I can do that. Also another note is that the coop in this pen is pretty small and might not be big enough for a trio. (it is 3x7ft)

Gracie, you are right the shade cloth roll was a bit shorter than my fence. But they do not pace the fence down there, only at this upper end, near the little hill.
