Wow! This year it was extremely cold through November and December. Now in January it's back to about Normal temps (still cold and dry) and our Sebastopol Geese have started to lay! That's about a month earlier than last year. We got our first two eggs on the 5th of January. I wasn’t expecting them yet so they got cold but breaking them shows fertility. So I started the Incubators up to get them ready. Since the 9th I’ve collected 15 eggs from our 4 girls. They go into the incubator today for a Valentines Day hatch date! I’ll also be setting about 20 Silver Appleyard Duck eggs to check their fertility.

At least I will be able to confirm fertility and maybe get some goslings and ducklings started early sure don’t know where the winter went.

We've had our pair of Sebs now for about a month and they eat out of my husband's hand, but they walk away from me. My gf was visiting, and I was showing her my chickens and geese and telling her how calm and docile these geese were, and the male ran over and bit my friend in the calf! Now he's hissing at me, too. I guess they don't like strangers?

Seminolewind I have found when it starts getting into breeding season ganders do not like anything they hate everything and every body! This time of year is not a good time to show friends our beautiful geese as you can see. The gander took and bit your friend.....

Thanks, RURU. She laughed, and I was hoping it was beginning breeding season. He's not happy with me right now either. I can't wait for eggs. Inside a 10 x 10 foot shed with straw, does the female need a nest box or enclosure?
