Don't know why but my girl has laid 4 beautiful eggs. SHe is alone....but they are very tasty. Perhaps our weirdly mild winter.

My 2010 Hatch toulouse are laying fertile eggs already, but I haven't had anything from the 2011 birds yet. They don't even appear to be thinking about nesting. I remember the toulouse the fall after I got them standing in the garden and "practicing".

I think I have a problem though- one of the sebs I just got is sitting down a lot. And has a hard time getting up a tiny ramp that isn't even a foot tall. Her siblings are getting around ok, but I am worried. I am just assuming she's a girl because she's smaller and more shy. Any thoughts? I really can't afford a vet bill right now after spending all my critter money on them.

Well- I think we have it figured out why that goose in the previous post is sitting so much- she and her mate both have bumblefoot. I have been trying to get them to swim since i got htem since they were so dirty- now I know why. I have never seen this "in real life" before. Have to find out how to treat it- thank goodness I have helpers home from school for a few days. :(

There are great resources here on BYC about humble foot. There is a thread in the duck area that is pretty current and shares links to the BF post Herron ByC that shows how to care for it. Warm water, Epsom salts help alot, and neosporin. Tweezers and an exacto knife blade for opening it up. Gauze and vet wrap to keep it clean. That's the short version and list of things you will want.

Thanks! I went through and finally found the one that "Ruth" did. Funny thing- I just sent her goose eggs from my toulouse. I will have to find someplace open this weekend that has everything- maybe tractor supply? The hard part is going to be holding them- they're so freaked out being in a new home as it is, let alone having thier feet cut open. Crap.
