Shellie, I hope you post more pics- if you know which ones came from Sadie and Sammy, I'd love to see them!
Here are their NJ siblings....taken in the last few days. We're having fabulous weather and they are bonding to their parents so well, they are almost not caring if we are out there or not now. We do spy and babysit quite a bit still, but everyone is getting along like best buddies or long lost family members!

Sadly wrong way didn't make it. I have a 50/50 survival rate of wrong end pippers, but it did make it out and go 15 hours post hatch.

oh how sad! I'm sorry Wrongway didn't make it. Was it going to be a SB too? It looks darker than any of ours were...How sad. I'm still wondering if 2 of ours will show any color when fully feathered. They seem darker still than Scout, and the new fluff growing in isn't pure white like Scout's is. Can you see anything in the photos above or is it too soon to tell? I'm so sorry about your little one- what causes them to be wrong way in the shell anyways when everything else is the same? (egg storing, shipping, incubating, etc.)

Lisa, I have noticed its more eggs from first year geese than any others. Other than that I haven't been able to document any other similarity or cause. I do think it was a saddleback with the super dark coloring.

Yours are all still to young to tell too. It will be fun to watch their pictures from hatch to fall and see what if any color appears though.

Pretty sure that was a saddleback. I finally had a successful hatch and the saddlebacks all have black on their bills and some on the upper legs. 2 are loud with markings all down their necks and a baby Henri baby with coloring just like hers and markings stopping at the head.

Did you say you lost the little cutie??

My American Blue hatched backwards and was very weak but made it and is running around with the rest of the gang this morning.

Hey Kim,

Yes we lost the SB and Peaches first hatchling. Both were very weak post hatch. I did save a chic and poly vi sol but in the end they just didn't gain strength. We have only lost 4 goslings all spring, so not concerned as we have many more eggs to go.

Congrats on your hatch! Our Henri egg is going strong and should pip this weekend.

Oh wow....i know you are disappointed losing the first peaches baby. But you've done so well, I'm sure you'll have peaches goslings everywhere in no time.

I was really concerned about the little blue american gosling, but he made it and is doing great.

The Henri gosling in Wisconsin is a really interesting color. It's so close to white but then you compare the coloring to the other white babies....its so brownish, not blue/grey tinted and no eyeliner. They think it might be a buff saddleback, and I am inclined to believe them after seeing comparison outdoor pics. Time will tell...

My Henri baby is grey saddleback and with both parents saddlebacks, it will defy genetics if your baby isn't colored too!
