Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

Shellie, nice box of goslings! I was relieved to hear you were just moving them from brooders...not shipping 16 little goslings in 1 box. whew! (was it 16?)
They are adorable! If they didn't grow up so fast and poop so much, I'd get a few more this Spring...But the 6 I have now are eating and growing like weeds and pooping it all out all over their yard...ewww! I have to hose it all down just as often as I can get out there....

Yes, I think there were 16 in that picture. We have 24 running around right now on last count. Not including any new hatches in the house. Of course we don't brood in the house either, so no mess inside. I have our sprinkler system come on at 1am every other night. Washes the entire yard nicely. We dump all of the pools each night too and refil at sun up and turn out.

Oh this is going to make you smile, that is a buff Sebastopol. I have a blue, multiple buffs and lilacs and a possible lavender. Can get pictures of each for you to compare to if you like. Buffs, lilac and lavenders have a purplish/pink toned bill when they hatch.
Here is a group shot as we moved everyone around between brooders yesterday.

I was wondering how you brood these guys. I have mine temporarily in my bath tub! They girls are way too big and messy for that. I am having to clean the tub 3-4 times a day! So how do you brood them at night? If you wouldn't mind sharing your set-up I would be so grateful! I am planning on emptying one of my many kiddie pools and using that for a brooder in the garage. I think it is 60" across so it should give them ample room for now. They will of course get forays outside when weather permits. Then when the boy is a little bigger they will go into an outside covered pen.

Thanks Celtic! I think they are going to be grey?? I just wanted color and goslings from nice parents which I can't find in my area at all. I am very excited about them and can't wait to see how they feather out! I don't know a lot about sebbie color genetics yet so it will be interesting.

If anyone has any advice about joining the sebastopol forum could you let me know what I should do next. I tried to set up an account and it said I would get an email shortly activating my account but that was two days ago and I still can't log in? Any advice from anyone with a membership? Thanks!

I am currently brooding my babies in a big dog kennel with a "nest" made of hay. I have found that they sleep in the nest a lot then I can just replace the hay frequently instead of having to strip the brooder every few days entirely. I just moved my 4 week old baby outside with his two duckling friends because they were making a sloppy mess of the joint! My plan with these babies is to brood them inside for a few weeks with jaunts outside when the weather is nice then just bring them in at night until they are a bit bigger. I will look forward to other peoples brooding set ups because I am new to geese so it seems like their may be a better way to do it.

Josie, I just signed up for the forum too. But I did get an e-mail within a day or two. Seemed like it took a long time. Cottage Rose is the administrator, you could contact her on BYC?

All the babies becoming a flock

OH LORI !!! LOOK HOW CUTE THEY LOOK!! I guess they got over the road trip with the tiny duckies!!! I introduced my brooder of goslings to the 2 week old TINY black east indies and mini silvers yesterday in the outdoor playpen. They went into mass hysteria for about 10 seconds with everybody terrified of the "alien waterfowl". Then they ate leaf lettuce and played in the water bowl. best buds.... How's Cotton liking his new harem??

Celtic,

Between the sprinklers and hand hosing for the baby pens poop removal, I hate to see how much water you have to go through - but I bet your grass is smashingly awesome!

Shellie- I've got 3 identical babies - kinda like your pic, and can't figure out what they are. They all have bills like this:

Have to share a pic of the proud mamas. SO happy I was wrong about one of the due dates!
