Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

Very nice birds :) My babies are coming along. :) I thought they were all going to be smooth.. but looks like I can see some cording on their necks now. :) Is it normal for them to pull out feather
quills during their first molt??

Shellie- I can get a pic, but he looks normal. He just walks like he's got somebody else's legs on, if that makes any sense. I guess I would have to make a video. Sometimes he tips back and has to sit down.
Its definitely not keeping him from growing- gosh they get big fast!

I'm not an expert on geese, but with any animal with a joint injury I would make sure there was no way for them to further injure it. So, for starters, I'd make sure there is nothing in her area that she can jump, trip, or climb on. Does she have a pool to swim in? That might help if it will take the weight off it, keep it moving, and keep it cool.

Hopefully someone with experience will jump in with some advice!

Thanks for the ideas Christine! I will change the pools to encourage her to use it more. With 8 geese and 12+ ducks in that pasture it gets really dirty fast! I might need to move another one over to that pasture. Nothing to trip or climb on except the pools and feed/water bowls. I will keep an eye on her.

Jean sorry for your loss.

Amy can you post any pictures of the gosling?

Daze, could she have twisted it? is their heat above or below the knee?

Sorry for not posting more, life is being too demanding lately. I did get some more new pictures, and will try and take new ones tomorrow to share too.

Jean, this is a grandbaby goose of yours. She (Jubilee) is from the girl with the spot on her head (Sassy) we got from you last year.

Celtic- beautiful babies!!! Jubilee is gorgeous! I am not sure what she did to it. You know how silly they can be. I often see the flock of 8 whites running together with their wings out. Who knows if she tripped or what. I didn't feel any heat except at the joint. Her foot and other parts of her legs were cool or luke warm. The right (one she is limping on) knee was much warmer than the other. I thought of trying to isolate her but this is the goslings mama and I think she would freak out and probably hurt herself worse.

Daze, yes she may panic some if you tried to isolate her. Extra swimming water, is usually the best remedy for a joint issue.

Thanks about Jubilee, she is a sweet heart even if she cant get her head up to walk for fear of missing good grass. lol

Here is the grey girl related to yours.

Below is dad, McGraw

Above McGraw and Peaches (their mother), below just Peaches. She is a lilac smooth

Can somebody show me the difference between lilac an buff? My Alice sure looks alot like peaches, except saddleback. Her new feathers are really dark brown compared to the old ones.

Buffs are only tanish buff where lilacs have additional bluish tones on the feathers also. I have some close up shots of Peaches to show the coloring, give a second to upload them.

lighting has a lot to do with how the feathers look too. I will grab the lilac gosling and one of the buffs and take pictures side by side and wings together so you can see them that way too. They are with in days of each other as far as age goes, so feathering is very similar in growth right now. Will try and get those posted over the weekend.

Above is Peaches, the middle and last pictures show the tones I mentioned

Below is a buff gosling, notice no second tone of color on the feathers. just shades of tan

oh and buff Sebbies look much like American Buff geese, just with curls.
And alot more "round", or at least Alice is. She's a belly-dragger.
I had an American buff for a while, but she was broody-raised and too skittish to even blend into the flock.
