Its kind of like roosters- some feathers are a little more porous than others and can retain minerals and the like. When Kim got some of her adults from Atlanta, we were all guessing they were some sort of diluted buff. Nope- just that red Georgia clay.

Now I found that post... lol but.. we don't have red clay here... soo maybe it is just iron from the well ...I did give them some watermelon ... I don't know.. I guess time will tell.

Very likely iron, or any number of minerals that can be in your soil or water.

I LOVE the way the whole flock screams like the Beatles have come to town every time I bring a watermelon outside.

This is my Tavli's brother. He's supposed to be split for buff. Hoping he is curly so I can get some curly buff saddlebacks next year.

Oh I really love Sebastopol geese! My husband has always wanted some but we can't afford to pay $50+ per bird right now to build us up a small flock. I would especially love to find some colored Sebastopol geese... they are beautiful!

Myfine, the colors are my favorite also. They are deffinetly an investment bird, both financially and time.

I too have raised bed... am going to have to fence in the garden area if I ever decided to let the Sebbies run free over the property... I figure they would just love to eat that up.. lol

Even with the fencing around the beds, they still get some of it. Zucchini leaves seem to be a favorite this year. They trampled a fence to get to the peas and lettuce too, so I had to let them have it and start all over.

I hope by next year we'll have enough $ to fence it in properly and just let them in to mow the grass, but for now they are unrestricted.
