Those are totally awesome gardens Renie! I just love raised beds. We have one this year and you know, our geese free range every day and walk right past that box 900 times and knock on wood have never touched it!

We started with the boxes in 2008. It is a learn as you go kind of a project. Each yr I learn something new to improve the next yrs crop. This yr I learned to sprinkle used coffee grounds around the inside perimeter of the cabbage box to keep the slugs away ") We planted later this yr than usual but it hasn't hurt anything... Cooked fresh squash and zukes with sweet onions and bacon.... and made fried green tomatoes with chicken strips tonight for dinner
first of the season. Yummy
The Sebastopols are still molting, but it looks like they are getting their feathers back slowly. It looks like a Feather explosion went off in their pen..
The Embden gander is kicking the Sebastopol ganders butt.. The Embdens are only 4-5 months old and they are dominant ones right now. I'm going to buy 1 or 2 of those Electric poultry netting so the geese can be on pasture for breeding season next year. I'm thinking a 4x4 foot shelter (They'll be divided up into pairs so they get their own shelter) will be OK for them to be locked up at night time?
How do you prepare the carrot? Do you shred them up??? chip them?? Do you give them raw??Renie-
They love all kinds of veggies, but mostly greens, peas and the vines, and carrots. They go crazy for carrots. Thankfully they are cheap, because buy tons of them for the horses and donkeys.
They don't seem to bother the leeks, onions, hops, grapes or strawberries. Most of the flowers were untouched, but between the birds, I lost all the bee balm and echinacea this year. Live and learn, I guess!
