Hi All,

I am looking for somewhere that might sell a single Sebastopol gosling. I would like to be able to get a female and raise her with my ducklings. Do you know of anywhere that might sell a single female?

AND....any cons to my idea? I have read that a goose can be fine raised with ducks, but I would really like your experienced opinions.

Thanks,
Gina

I can tell you that I have a single goose, and she was fine just being with my outside cats up till now. She's almost a year and getting a little testy. Hissing at everyone and what-not. I'm currently on the hunt for some goslings for her. Being with ducks she would be in good company, that much is true, but geese do better with their own kind. If I were you, and learning from my mistake, I would go with a male/female pair of geese to go along with the ducks. I believe they would all be happier that way. Plus male geese are much more protective. Even of ducks.

Most places like Holdereads and Metzers have a 2-4 minimum on any order, and even Tractor Supply has been banned from selling them individually. Your best bet to finding a single one would be to find a non-breeder. Like someone you know that has geese and would be willing to let you take just one, although in that situation you couldn't be guaranteed a female. You could possibly get a dealer to let you have just one if you told hem your situation, but the chances are slim. And even if they said yes, you would have to go to that dealer. They can't ship just one.

If you can afford it, what I do when I'm in this sort of situation is buy the minimum that they require, and sell them when they're a bit older to get a profit out of it. (And with sebastapols, it could be a couple hundred each). Good luck.

Roman tuffs are quiet docile and africans are very gentle breeds and also giant dewelped toulouse geese :) never seen tame or nice chinese either well mine arent so anyway

No geese are docile in breeding season!

Today I was going in each pen putting their evening feed in there and went to go in Grants pen and Grant came up and bit my right thigh. Brat! Guess I deserved it because I raided the nest this afternoon and took eggs from each nest that no one is on yet.

I have two girls who went broody already one of my grey saddlebacks and a white girl.
I guess he counted them!!!

My auto-sexing ganders are just so docile, I´ve never been nipped or rushed by them. But I can already see my young cross-breed pied ganders are more antagonistic and forward, so as I plan to keep one or two of them, I may have a few nips waiting for me! I think I´ll keep an eye on them and pick the quieter-natured ones, hopefully they´ll have inherited their dad´s quiet nature.
