My Coop
she just turned a year old, she housed with her brother and another 3-4 month old sebbie, lot of silkies and a few peafowl... for the most part, the coop is kept VERY clean ( the worst is always after a heavy rain, but i'm on top of it as soon as the rain lets up) ... they all have the run of THEIR yard during the day and are penned up only at night .. they have a kiddie pool that gets fresh water (emptied, rinsed and filled)daily, along withfresh water available at ALL times

saying hello a little while ago and i noticed one her eyes seemed to be a little sunken in --- upon closer inspection (didn't take much), i noticed that she has swelling around and above it...

i doubt that it's one of those things that will resolve itself ... if need be, i can bring a vet in who makes house calls, but if there's something that i can do, i'm relatively comfortable with minor procedures .. don't want to see her blind or dead...

a couple of pics showing:

the back of the head

the good eye

the bad eye

and their nighttime run (i'm showing the DIRTIEST part) (they can go inside the attached shed as well)

any help or info is greatly appreciated

You can get Terramycin eye salve at most feed stores also Veterycin spray can be sprayed into the eyes and if for wounds and infections. and if you need to go get either one of these put some Un pasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar into their buckets that they use to wash their heads in, ACV is really good for cleaning out and has antibacterial properties. I'd also let her clean her face real good then try to look into the eye under the lid if you can to make sure nothing is in there. Even reg ACV would be good in a pinch till you can get the other, 2 Tab to 1 gal of water.

hey the unpasteurized ACV is very beneficial for them in all over health too. and us. I use it 3X a week in my flocks water. but till you notice yours eye looking better I would use it everyday.

her eye appears just about normal, the swelling above the eye(making the head look uneven) went down after the first application of terramycin eye salve

... the eye no longer looks sunken in.... i plan on applying it at least another 3-4 days (more if it's not 100%) .. thank you so much miss lydia! you saved nuknuk's eye

-- i have to be honest here and say i didn't get the acv (it wasn't as easy to get as i thought it would be)

i'm pretty sure the cause was my favorite peacock -- he's been removed for the time being and i'm at a loss as what to do about him -- it truly sucks because out of all my birds (200+) he was (well, still is) my favorite (another post to be posted in pealand).....

thank you once again

Always happy to hear good news, so glad she is almost normal again, as to what to do with that peacock I have no idea other than his own pen. But wonderful news about nuknuk's eye.

You can buy unpasteurized ACV at most grocery stores but it is pretty expensive, I buy on line at Vita cost. save close to 2.00 on it.
