I purchased a pair of Sebs last spring and enjoy them very much. I thought I got a "pair" but only one is laying and the other has no interest in her nor lays which makes me think he (?) is just not mature enough. Now for the question: the only breeding that is happening with her is from a young Muscovy. From what I have read, he should be able to fertilize the eggs. I have about a dozen in the incubator (1932 Jamesway!!!) but so far there hasn't been a fertile egg. I hate to purchase another only to find he becomes mature and has the interest/capability.

I appreciate any guidance.

As far as male or female, I think that males have bigger/fatter necks? As far as fertility, I think that you have to trim vent feathers? I've had some breeding geese, with a very good gander for years and never hatched out a gosling. Why? I was told that I have to trim feathers on both the male and female. I'm assuming that is vent feathers. But was never sure.
