Second Annual Cinco De Mayo Turkey Hatch a long Digest 4-9-2013

Chooks Chicks has anarchy at her place! Cats are in heat! They want to mate but instead keep dropping in front of people……Still contests will be organized…..

Lotsapaints set late due to staggered hatching. Chicken pickin set chicken eggs now and will set more later. A cracked egg was fixed with wax.

Wolftracks had the high winds(close to 50mph) damage her pens!

OffGridMAMA joined the hatch! Thebirdguy joined too! HappyAcresKY joined due to learning so much last year! Gardeningmala is in too!
Cmfarm asked about quail hatching--Hard shell causing problems? Was told to add calcium to food for them.

Nothing.   However, I will NOT be applying for any Tech support positions in the near future.  From what I understand the first question you have to ask is "Do you have a computer in front of you?"

YOu mean for shipped eggs? Or your own home grown eggs? I don't sand my own eggs, BUT I'm going to sand some with the thickest paint and see if I can increase the hatch rate of those. What do you think?

THe cows are not bothered by it , REALLY !, once the healing process is complete. SHe acts like every other cow, only junk is dripping out as the seal is not complete.

Soooo I posted an ad on craigslist to sell some chicks. I got a call from a lady, she said she has 13 chicks she needs to find a home for. She bought them 2 weeks ago and now she is moving. I explained that I did not need any more chicks and that she should place an ad on CL. She did now know how, so I walked her through the CL part. We hung up. 10 minutes later she calls me back. I have been on the phone with her for 10 minutes trying to get her signed in to her Gmail account. At one point she was inputting her gmail information on CL. She is now on the Gmail account and can't find where it says to read her mail. OK, I just hung up with her. The 2nd call was 42 minutes long, but she got her ad posted.

Had me worried!!! I hatch my turkey eggs right along side my chicken eggs. How much humidity depends on the rate of drying in the eggs. The development of the air cell in a timely manner is iimportant, just like a chicken egg. Do you have a diagram to follow during candling?? I "dry" hatch, but I do add moisture as necessary to keep the air cell the correct size. If you are very dry, or use a fan in the incubator, monitor air cells carefully nad add water as necessary. Many online diagrams to print and keep on hand while candling. Pick one that works for you. SOme are colored, some black and white. Use this phrase " air cells at 7th, 14th and 18th day" and look for the one that has both chicken and turkey eggs as the turkey eggs dry a little slower but for an extra week.

I do watch the aircell will have to check out the turkey diagrams though. Have only hatched tutors. I add water usually at about 10 days and then more for lockdown.
