Arielle - I have development in my eggs! Woot Woot! I have not candled all of them... I love to candle
hide.gif
so I only candle a few a day so that I have an excuse to go back and do it the next day. But I definately saw a dancer last night!

I am willing to sponsor a contest to get Arielle an avatar... The poor girl looks positively naked. Never sponsored a contest before. What do I need to do? I figured this a good one for me to sponsor since any photos I have seem to resemble african wildlife.

I was really excited to hear the eggs are devleoping WELL !! THen I read, a contest for an avatar for Arielle, then I jumped over the moon!!! If the marans start laying again, I'll put up the prize!!

Dang! A couple weeks ago when I was looking for turkey eggs there were none to be found. Tonight I find ads on CL for $2 Bronze eggs. I have absolutely zero knowledge of turkeys but now I kinda want some. There were quail eggs too $8/doz or 2 doz for $10. I have no idea if those are good prices. Too bad my incubator is full until May 5th!

That is a pretty good price for Turkey eggs. I tend to see them for $1-3 each. What kind of quail? The cornix (sorry, I know it is spelled wrong but am to tired to figure out how to spell it right) quail eggs I get here locally are $3 a dozen, so that price seems a little high.

Edited to add: for the 2 dozen for $10 price that isn't too bad.

Well since a lot of my eggs aren't looking so good AND i'm going to pick up an old redwood incubator today (yay) I wouldn't mind an egg bomb too. But who would, really? haha. Once I get this thing home, cleaned up and see if it works properly I'll be looking for more turkey and chicken eggs. If anyone has extra eggs they want to get rid of just let me know

I always have extra eggs, but can't afford to bomb anyone else right now (just spend over $150 in shipping in 3 days

) but I can sell you some.

Well, this weekend I'm going to be real nice.

Over my five years on BYC, I've had folks here on BYC be VERY nice to me, (The Sheriff, kathyinmo, laree, NotAFarm, SCG, pasofinofarm, and many others etc..) so I'm passing it on. I can no longer keep roos so.....

There is an FFA group in the East Valley that are looking for "project chickens".

So, they will be picking up my entire flock of Icelandics. 1 pretty roo and 9 hens/pullets.

I got them originally to help preserve the breed. While I love watching them and their antics and they are most certainly "EYE CANDY"... with the gorgeous young roo crowing to beat the band each morning and doing nothing yet with the ladies, I decided I'd let them go where I know they'll stay pure and this land race chicken will be preserved.

My wife will miss those pretty little white eggs, (they lay almost as well as my leghorns) but they are going to a greater good.

So to the rest of you... continue passing forward the good!
My first act of generosity will be to give away, for absolutely NO CHARGE AT ALL, any rooster on my property. There are about 15, so everyone doesn't have to rush to get them all at once. There are plenty to go around for everyone! I may even be persuaded to drive long distances to bless anyone at all with my wonderful boys. LOL, LOL, LOL!!

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

In all seriousness, that is wonderful of you, and for the breed. I don't exactly have anything very desirable to give away, but I did put an ad on CL for free Serama/D'Uccle hatching eggs for anyone willing to pick them up. I felt badly that I kept throwing them away. 1 lady had a broody D'Uccle but no rooster, so she contacted me, and I mailed them to her. It felt really good!

I have anotherbroody.

And evil, she is. I'm lucky I didn't pull back a bleeding bone stump. :lol

I really don't need more chicks, especially since I have nobody set up for breeding any more, all I have are mixed LF and bantam mutt eggs. What to do, what to do... I *could* give her a couple of the duck eggs I have in the bator. Or... I could steal a couple from under my other broody. That idea has merit. Will the mothering switch tick over after only two weeks of broodiness?
Hard to say but probably two weeks of incubation will be enough.

I felt badly that I kept throwing them away.
You do know you can eat eggs that aren't being incubated, don't you?

or feed them to the pets.. or feed them back to the birds in the flock!

I freeze extra eggs.. break them open into a container.. freeze for a few hours.. remove from freezer and add enough water to just cover the top of the frozen block of eggs then pop them back into the freezer

you can also freeze them in ice cube trays if you want individual eggs
