**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Congrats to those of you with hatching happening!!

I am done now. I can't count all of them, but I think it's in the 190s. That's working backward with the DIS eggs and the number I had on day 19...less 3 that ripped open their yolks in shell and eviscerated themselves in the process. That kills me.

I'll get a pic. They're in the 4x4' brooder on my patio. It's 90 today but we're supposed to get rain for the next 3 days and SNOW on Friday. I'm beyond ****** about that!!! I'll be putting on the solid window shutters instead of hardware cloth inserts tomorrow.

I am amazed at our healing powers! Arnold aint got crap on us! he he he

There are possible bacterial issues, the yolk could have ruptured, he may be in their weird and not be able to internal pip, he may have functions/mental issues from the drop. And probably a a few I am missing that will pop up

My 1st 4 hatchalong chicks have popped out of their shells. I have a black, a buff with reddish striping & 2 whites from my cochin mix eggs. Now waiting on the 1 call duck & (I lost count) 6-8 rouens that are in lockdown & due for Thursday. Then I have pekins due Sun & runners, silkies, oegb, bantam orps, more cochin mixes & more calls due Mon & Tues. Yesterday I set 14 guineas from Jill & 75 of my own eggs (EE bantam, cochin mix, oegb, runner, call & pekin). A couple days ago I set 2 slates for a fertility check & 1 toulouse also for fertility check & a scovy egg I pulled out of a cage at the auction on Wed

. I have eggs STACKED in bator 1, hatching in bator 2 & cooking away in bator 3. I may have to go pick up another bator to put the other 32 guinea, 6 cayauga, 6 welshies & 6 anconas in that are on the way. Shhhhhh...don't tell JJ!!!

I still have 20+ coturnix quail eggs sitting here that haven't found a way into my bator yet if someone wants to rescue me from them.

Sheesh. I would love to hatch some more, but where to put them when they are out chirping? Maybe I should make some calls to the two other "bird folk" that I know and see if they want any babies? I already gave a half dozen eggs to a gal who has a broody... But I just know I am getting those back after they aren't cute any more... She lives someplace she isn't supposed to have chickens. Shhhhh. ;)

I keep a select few for my breeders & the rest get sold. Anything that isn't sold locally by the time a swap meet rolls around goes to the swap. I usually sell most of what I take, but have a bad habit of bringing additional breeders home too...LOL

I am new to the whole keeping chickens thing. And I only personally know a couple of folks who have chickens. I know there are others around, but I just don't know where they hang out I guess. I am what my husband calls a chicken fashionista. (I look at the looks and colors and egg colors of the chickens before I check if they would do well in our weather and whatnot.) I have no idea where there would be a swap meet in ND. I went to some in other states, but never remember seeing chickens there! I must be at the wrong ones. I did hear about an upcoming exotic animal sale nearby where I am sure I can get myself into all kinds of mischief. ;)

My Cinco De Mayo hatch is finished! Both Turkey eggs hatched-- I set 2. I hatched out 19 Guinea Keets! 5 or 6 were clears or early quitters and two did not hatch--Very exciting!
