So many hatches going on! Grats to all with new babies (and stop teasing me with gosling pics - I'm trying to be wise and wait a couple years to find the perfect trio of Pilgrims, but Me Want.)

Broody Supergirl has three little peepers!

Off to lockdown ducks!

Thank you everyone that posted a pic to get me clothed. MANY MANY great selections. Here I am fullly clothed for the first time!!

Oh, and the name Arielle is the name of my very first chicken. My family all fell in love with her inspite of her standoffish Easter Egger ways. She is responsible for the need for incubators, hatchers, coops and more coops. She free ranges everyday . . . but lays a pink egg.

Again, THANK YOU to EVERYONE to help me find the right avatar.

wooohoooo... great to see you dressed!

How long is the resting period for turkey? from pip to hatch, I know I know, they are all different, but give me an est. 24 hrs?

I am new to the whole keeping chickens thing. And I only personally know a couple of folks who have chickens. I know there are others around, but I just don't know where they hang out I guess. I am what my husband calls a chicken fashionista. (I look at the looks and colors and egg colors of the chickens before I check if they would do well in our weather and whatnot.) I have no idea where there would be a swap meet in ND. I went to some in other states, but never remember seeing chickens there! I must be at the wrong ones. I did hear about an upcoming exotic animal sale nearby where I am sure I can get myself into all kinds of mischief.

I just type in "swap meet" or "poultry swap" & my state after it & do a search. It usually brings up most of the stuff in the area & when you click the links for some they will usually give you links for more.

MARANS ARE HATCHING MARANS are HATCHING ,,,, and i think one Welsummer YEAH

so far there are 10 some are different colors and then Now get this my show brahmas are in too and all those mixed birds OMG what am i gonna o they where tests but now ?

they are cross between a Brahma roo and the hens are Brahma,RIR,Astralorps, and Barred Rocks ............ what should i sell them for they will make great meat and egg birds
Not sure about your area, but for a mixed breed chick I usually get about $3 at hatch. Maybe a little more for colored eggers. For a "meat" type chick I get $3-4 at hatch & add 50 cents to $1 per week due to high feed consumption.

Lookin good in your new clothes!

Somewhere between chicks & ducks usually, so give them 24-48 hours & just keep an eye on them after the 24 hours.

My Cinco De Mayo hatch is finished! Both Turkey eggs hatched-- I set 2. I hatched out 19 Guinea Keets! 5 or 6 were clears or early quitters and two did not hatch--Very exciting!

Congratulations!
Wow these 28 days are long! When do they go in lockdown? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
For me the 28 days has flown by. Here I was thinking we still had a couple of weeks to go and realized with a shock that it is now counted in days, not weeks. I don't feel ready.
Here I was thinking about lockdown tomorrow for this hatch, and thrilling at everybody's hatchlings so early.... And one of my tutor chicks was out and all dry and fluffy when I just glanced at the incubator! Luckily the Brinsea Octafon20 is in a turner cradle, so the baby has only gone for some gentle rides from side to side for the day.

I grabbed my second EcoGlow20 brooder "heater" and started to set up another brooder bin... But I have Punkin with 3 five day old chicks she incubated, hatched, and is caring for in the dog bed. Hmmmm.

Yup! She accepted it! The little bugger crawled right under her.

Aren't broody hens wonderful? I have a broody who was raising 3 chicks and still accepted 4 poults as well.

Great to see you clothed and cute story on the name!

Are you referring to how long does it take from pip to zip? The four I hatched a couple of weeks ago seemed to take roughly 24 hours.

A question about a dilemma. I have a broody muscovy who started with 4 of her own eggs. One disappeared about two weeks in. Never saw it again - no idea where it went. The second she pushed out of the nest after 3 weeks, and it was a stinker. Fortunately I put it in a grocery bag before exploding it. The third egg she didn't push out but I decided to check them all, and found it was stinky too, so it was removed after she had sat for a full 5 weeks. That leaves her with one egg under her. The five weeks was up last weekend and no sign of it hatching. Meanwhile....I ran out of incubator space, so put most of the CdM eggs under her. I candled last weekend and they are all looking good, so presumably will hatch this weekend. My plan had been to remove the turkey eggs when the ducklings hatched but since no ducklings hatched, I've allowed her to continue sitting on them. So here is the question: can a Muscovy successfully raise turkeys? I feel really bad for this duck to have sat for so long and got nothing out of the deal. I have some muscovy eggs in an incubator but they still have a little over two weeks to go so if I wait to put some of those under her, she'll have sat almost 7 weeks by the time they hatch and I worry that is too long for her. Best thing is to get her up and off that nest as soon as I can, but the only "babies" I can offer in the near term are the poults. I am open to any and all suggestions. Yinepu, I know you have raised both species - have you ever had one raise the other though? (I currently have a chicken hen raising some chicks and poults and she is doing a good job but I've noticed there are some communication issues since she doesn't speak turkey and they don't speak chicken. I'm thinking the difference would be even more acute with a Muscovy, and I'm worried she might try to take them swimming at some point, although I can limit her access to deep water.
