**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

hey everyone,

was able to get some turkey eggs off of various people (eggswapping, ebay, etc..) so you can count me in.

I've already hatched quail, pheasants, chickens, regular ducks, call ducks, and recently hatched out my 1st goose. I have 8 call ducks fixin to hatch the 26th of march, another batch of call ducks due early april (along with a silver sebright egg), and just set 7 more geese eggs last night.

my turkey eggs haven't arrived yet but am expecting them within the week. they're all royal palms.....

looking forward to this. I assume that because of their size one would have to get special racks for an auto turner (as the chicken egg rack probably wont be big enough).

Don I don't know about everyone else but I use the same auto-turner for chicken and turkey eggs. Turkey eggs are larger but not by a whole bunch. I would say slightly larger than an extra large or jumbo chicken egg. At least mine are.

I just might have to join in on the fun... I just received my incubator yesterday - need to test it out... :) . Also my birthday is Cinco de Mayo, even more reason to hatch some baby chickens! Makes sense to me anyway.

We'll see.

I have a box very similar to that. I was going to make a double brooder out of it, but ended up using a 2X4 shelving unit instead. I'll still use the big box, but for my Muscovies I think.

You thought about it and posted so you're in! Now all you have to think about is what you are going to set! Welcome aboard!
How's that for pushy?

Assignment for last year's participants:

Take pics of your turkeys. Post them.

Assignment for new participants...think about your favorite color/pattern/material for clothing...'cuz you're going to need it!
I don't have any to post pics of, both my poults died......but I don't want to talk about it.......

Sounds great! If you set on Easter you'll be about a week ahead of us, and we'll get to see the poult pictures while we're waiting.
Thanks for pointing that out, I was thinking we were setting right after Easter, looks like she will have another week to collect eggs for me!
I love the shots of the Turkey Tango!! They tilt their tails towards one another...It's the Turkey Tail Tilt Tango!!!

Is that a suggestion for a photo contest?

So, Hubs hauled home a 5' x 5' wood crate from some equipment they got at work, and then he made it into a cozy little brooder/studio apartment for me. I guess he got tired of the broody and the girl with the blocked crop running around in the house when it was really cold out

It's going to be awfully cute when finished. He's putting panels in the top half that are removable, and there's going to be permanent 1/2" 14 gauge hardware woven wire in there. It's much stronger and nicer than typical hardware cloth.

Yay!!
AWWwwwwww! Sweet hubs!
