**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

We sent 7 toms and 4 hens to the butcher last fall. they bows were 15.2 - 17.5, and the hens 5-8 lbs. I kept the same toms from last year and 3 of the same hens. I replaced the rp hen I lost with a slate from the Cinco De Mayo hatch, and I think I got her first egg yesterday. Much smaller than the other 2 that I found with it. I also have a black hen and an odd colored black/slate hen that hatched via broody Cochin last summer. They were too little to process so I kept them. They think they are chickens though and prefer to hang out in the horse barn with the Icelandics.

And just in case you had any doubt about their allure:

Is that a Turken centerfold?

I can not believe that y'all posted these today! Just this past Sunday, I PMed Chooks and suggested a "Poultry Pinup" contest and expressed my concern that it might not be appropriate. Leave it to this bunch to all think alike!

Sorry I am new to this thread and thinking of joining. Might go look for some wild turkey eggs this weekend, but I may have some tutors. I'll let ya know. I could suggest a HENN, OZ he's in the other place right now but he's great to have around.
Well I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's not probable. If it happened, after I came to grips with the loss of my life as I know it sobered up found out the joyful news, you guys would be the next to know. Promise.

BF would be a good dad, but I'd be a terrible mom. And I've never wanted kids, so I'm totally happy with my life being filled with work and farm. And quiet. Glorious quiet. And neatness. No one writing on my walls in crayon or puking in the middle of the night. I'm sure I'm missing out on some wonderful parts of having kids, but it's just not for me.

Some say the best children are the ones you can give back..... I honestly believe the best are the ones you never had to pick up in the first place

Mine from last year didn't get eaten either....just live on a farm instead of here at NotAFarm!

A retired teacher who has a hobby farm got my pair of Bourbon Reds. I saw him the other day and he said they are like dogs that go to greet anyone who drives up! He said they work better than dogs at keeping strangers inside their cars until he goes out to see who it is!

Guard turkeys...who knew!

That's sort of what I'm hoping for someday, a big tom that makes folks a little nervous when they pull up. haha. Our dogs love everyone, they don't look too intimidating when they run up to strangers wagging their tails and carrying tennis balls.

I have three toms that slide up to people, with that weird quiet "zzzhhhitt " Then they sand quiet and tip their heads to get a better view with one eye. Not very threatening really. Most people are scared because they don't know what these creatures will do. Big = menacing. Right??

Bourbon Reds are laying , tooo !! WHoot!!!!!

My MW Tom, Sarge, is pretty large. 'Course, I've never seen anybody else's MW Toms, so what do I know? Anyway, he's really good at sidling up to folks in full display, tzut tzutting at them. Because he likes me A LOT, I am guessing he is warning them to stay away from me. Nothing like having a pure white knight dressed in feathers protecting one's honor. :lau

What I find so very odd is the acoustic "boom" he produces under those feathers. Is this the "drumming" of which I've read? I thought that was the foot stamping....

However, the sound is amazing as it doesn't even sound like it's coming from him. Almost like he is surrounded by his own invisible, atmospheric phenomenon to create Turkey Thunder.

I can take 2 or 3 more orders for a six pack of Black Spanish eggs that I can send out on Monday or Tuesday for the hatch along if anyone is still looking for eggs... PM me if interested

I often forget the sound is coming from my toms and somewhere in the bak of my mind I'm counting it as heavy construction equipment somewhere down the highway...then I remember it's the boys.

A few years ago I had a mail carrier who refused to deliver mail up at the house (packages and such) because she was afraid of the geese

when she saw a turkey walking around the yard with them it made it worse...

The uniforms were changed in the late 90's because the rural mail carriers were getting flogged by wild turkeys in Ohio...odd but true!!

I will need one of those. And some Icelandics. And some Blue Wheatens. I had a catastrophic failure on hatch day today. Lost pretty much everything. You and I are in the same loss count in the hundreds on this one.
