**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Sally Sunshine and Chooks yes it is for real and my aching calves from the hike to get the picture make me happy that it is thousands of feet higher than where my house sits. There is actually probably 3 to 4 feet of snow still up there. At least at the house I am sure the 1" of snow in the yard will be gone by this afternoon. We may get more tonight but it should melt quickly. Come on spring!

Cry for HELP from DUCK PEOPLE!

I HAVE A MAJOR ORDEAL TODAY! and of course the Day DH takes off work and is home to witness it!!

Our Ancona Drake, Clem is trying to kill the brahma roosters in the run!
The one rooster is ripped top of wattle down about 4 inches long! we put veterycin on it and gave him some antibiotics but DH don't care, the ducks have to go.
I locked him alone in the duck house for now, DH heard the commotion and came running and said I need to get rid of the ducks or he will get rid of them.
OMG the drake was physco and I couldn't even stop him! He flipped physco I swear!

Is this normal or what!! PLEASE TELL ME ITS NOT NORMAL!
I am so upset I have 17 eggs in the bator too!

Why cant everyone even ducks and chickens get along! why why why!
This is why I don't keep a rooster and my drake, and well, I like ducks better, so ducks win. lol My drake never messes with the chickens and they are all housed together, but I only have layers, no roosters.
Has everyone got tutors going if you have turkeys cooking? If not, you might want to set some chicken eggs soon or have a lead on where to get day-olds close to your turkey hatching date so you have someone to teach your poults how to eat and drink...more than once in a while! Seems they get how to do it, just don't remember to do it often!!

Hope everyone is happy and healthy. I'm cold and grumpy. We're getting showers (GOOD) but it's muddy (BAD) and the temps are down again (BAD) and the sun isn't shining (BAD) and my kids are getting whiny (BADBADBAD) because they are home-schooled teens and it's dreary and lonely right now (BAD) and I'm wishing I could nap all day because I need sun (would be GOOD if I could, however I can't- BAD).

Insert severely whiney smiley here.
Sounds like my house, only with much younger kids! ;)

I put a post up about a fun, quick-to-read book on my blog today if anyone is interested http://witheagerhands.net/2013/04/15/barnheart-have-you-been-infected/

And in case anyone missed my butt-crack of dawn post...I candled and have 9 but possibly up to 12 viable eggs! Yay! (Idk, I thought that would be a bigger deal being a hatch a thon, but since this is my first one, I really have no idea.) At any rate, I'm psyched!

Alright, I've got farm stuff to do too, and my daughter has dance tonight, even though I REALLY don't want to go. I'm sure I'll be checking in later, and maybe I'll even get some pictures posted!

uhm.. that's not counting what's in all 7 of the other bators.. and what will end up in the new one when the parts arrive... (yeah.. added another bator last week and working on a coolerbator)

I just had ancona ducklings hatch a week or so ago.. plus two goslings (one from Easter).. then two embden goslings hatched between yesterday and today.. plus 9 Euskal Oiloa the other day... colored dorking eggs and 2 EEs ready to hatch in a few days.. crele dokings, buckeyes, muscovy plus an assortment of 10 or 12 purebred birds due to hatch out before the end of the month (still need to candle them).. 3 sebastopols, 9 mandarins, and toulouse due by mid May... (I know I'm forgetting someone...).. oh yeah.. the muscovy / giant pekin mules should hatch out around May 9th.. unless the muscovy blood wins out!.. have a bunch more of those to set too.. just need to decide how many freezer birds I want..

Crele Dorkings.... I generally don't feel breed envy, but, oh.... Wistful sigh.
