**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Well, I think my boys were too busy fighting each other to pay attention to the hens. I candled and pulled all but 13 of my 36 turkeys. On the bight side all 6 of Ariele's are still in as well as all the tutors. And since I had more space and a couple folks had backed out of their egg orders, there was nothing to do but set another 2 dozen Iowa Blues. I did decide I'm going to butcher my entire turkey flock this fall and start over with the pure bred Sweetgrass I just ordered from Porters. I decided since it doesn't cost any more to raise pure bred birds than mutts I might as well have a good flock.
My eggs from arielle are also doing awesome...oh and I also just bought some of those sweetgrass eggs from her! And some more br.
I have no idea! There are a few local people who want some. I wasn't a few. Of course developing at this point and actually having are two different things. I'll know better in two weeks. My hatches vary between miserable and good. I've never had over about 70%, and that was with my own eggs.
Knock on wood I am having amazing hatches right now with my brinsea the current one that is hatching now in the lg but incubated in brinsea is all pipped or hatched but 1 which its just been day 21 for 12 hrs...so they have time to finish.
I know y'all have been dying to see the Extra Secure Long Sleeved Jacket made for me by SCG. I am not yet modeling it, but I certainly took photos of it and the lovely detail work. I had asked for paisley print - I think paisley is a nice touch for such a garment - and she obliged with a very nice "half-paisley" with tiny flowers in the background. . . . . . . . . Isn't it clever and darling and wonderful????!!!???
What? These are for real? I thought they were a figment of our overactive imaginations!
hello! just saw this and since i have turkey eggs incubating I thought I would jump in. I did not set on the right day, but will have lots of turkeys comming from now until the first week of June. this is my first time hatching. the first batch just hatched over the weekend. and I got 20 out of 28 eggs hatched. next batch goes on lock down in two days. that batch is 60 eggs. I also have a batch of 107 started on 4/10 and 104 on 4/20. I will start three more batches of 100+ over the next couple weeks.
are you trying to start up a turkey hatcherie? Wowsa you make my chicken addiction look minor!

Oh, and I forgot to mention: I candled the turkey eggs today. Yes, I did! No fainting, now, although I am sure those who know I "don't candle" will be hyperventilating about it.

All six have something developing in 'em! Whoot!
YEA!!!! I love it when my eggs do better for others than for me!!! (course might have something to do with shipping the fresh ones and setting old ones myself....)

So I was thinking we should have a Poultry in Action picture contest. All types of poultry in any kind of action(as long as the birds arent intentionally being compromised of forced into action for the pic). Thoughts?

Heck, no! This is the SECOND one she's made - I had to have one of my own after I saw the first example.

Missing a piece (actually... two) aren't you?
Ummm... yes. There is a wild pair of clip-on epaulets, too. I selected them early in the imagination...er.... Planning portion of the deal. Black backing, a myriad of gold spikes and dangly chains. The concept of an Extra Secure Long Sleeved Jacket with Epaulets was too delicious to pass up. Now, I can decide just how Important I want to be in my ESLS jacket and add the epaulets if the occasion calls for it. :lau

Just thought I'd check in. I'm so tired and I slept most of the afternoon away. My hypoglycemia attacked about an hour before dinner so I ate a sandwich and fell asleep on the couch until dinner was done. I went back to sleep after that and slept until about an hour ago and decided to get up for a bit and ended up candling a few eggs. My one Pekin egg is still going strong. I hope it makes it to hatch. I only candled 3 of the quail eggs and 2 of the 3 are doing fantastic. The chick in one of them has no spots near it, so I can see it plain as day. My 4 bantam EEs don't seem to be doing anything, but I'm holding out hope. My LF EE and EE over layer (BR from the looks of it!) are doing great. The one OEGB doesn't seem to be doing anything. My lone silkie is doing great (another I'm excited about!) and my bantam Cochin mix doesn't look like it's doing anything either. I set the only egg I had from my hen Tally with them to help gauge where they all should be at and it's doing fantastic as well!

I had a Dr's appointment today. They told me that everything looks good and I'm right where I'm supposed to be at. Next time I go in I get my final (I think) ultrasound to figure out how/where SJ is positioned, fluid volume, and to get my pre-admittance taken care of. My SIL had an appointment at the same time I did and they changed her C section date to this Friday. I get to see my 3rd niece earlier than I thought!

Some time after I got home my dad, Blu, and I ended up making a temporary grow out pen from a dog house and scraps of fence left over from tomato cages (I mostly watched) for Bob, Tripp, Dinner, and our 3 young hens. Bob decided he wanted to try to fight Tripp (my rose comb HRIR), but Tripp wanted nothing to do with it.

I'll try to get a pic up tomorrow since I missed my chance today by sleeping. The white game hen I have in the pen with them needs to be moved into Tally and Stupid's (yes, that's his name) cage. I'm too lazy to do it tonight, so I'll do it tomorrow night.

Goodnight everyone. I'm off to eat again and then go back to sleep. I don't want to be this tired tomorrow.
I can't wait to see your baby's pic! Take good care of yourself!

I have a small feed mill and raise meat birds, hogs, and beef. one of my feed customers keeps a prety large flock of turkeys and I offered to buy all the eggs she could produce this spring. I a selling the poults to another meat farm near me. He said he would take all I can hatch between now and the first week of June. I am running two sportsman incubators and have two large display hatchers. I would love to get to five hundred, but four hundred is still a nice pay day. I am getting the eggs in trade for feed and selling the poults for 9.00 each.

Announcing the winners of the
Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon
Poultry Poetry Contest

First Place
Wisher1000

I will not choose a prize, afterall, I get to keep the ones that others don't choose!

I once had a hen that was broody.
She made the most foul smelling doodie.
Her eggs she kept warm
till all chicks were born,
and that would make anyone moody!

Second Place
Hurley

Hurley chose the Six pack of Eggs From ChooksChick

The Acrobatic Hen
There once was a little brown hen,
who wouldn't be kept in a pen.
She'd fly to the top,
do 3 flips and a flop,
and find herself free once again.

Third Place

Chiques chicks
Chiques chicks chose the Mystery box! I think he will be happy with it!

There once was a crazy old man,
Came up with a so simple plan.
He'd get a few chicks,
He thought just for kicks,
Now they're all over his land.

Fourth Place

Chickenpooplady
Chickenpooplady chose the Hen's choice Hatching Eggs from Wisher

There once was a rooster named Fred
He was not right in the head
He chased the hens
And wrecked the pens
But he sure did taste good with bread
