**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Well just went out to the coop and candled my 8 eggs.

In all seriousness, I don't give any of them much hope. I did pull two obvious clear and scrambled, so I'm down to 6. Only two looked like something was developing with an air sac intact, but at only 8 days I suppose they won't look too developed. 2 looked like obvious blood rings, but I left them just in case. Next Monday, I'll candle again (day 14) and take out any others that look like they are not developing. I hope that the feed stores will be selling newborns about the 6th or 7th of May.

When you figure those eggs came ALL THE WAY FROM MAINE, you know they had to get a bump or two.

Can't wait to see what they look like next week.

I have been having such rotten luck with people on CL lately saying they want chicks and then flaking out. I hatched some blue/black sex link chicks (which I put pictures up here) and I had a lady say she wanted them but couldn't get them until the weekend (it was like a Tuesday). So I said I would hold them for her and come Friday she says her plans have changed and she can't get them. She was asking about shipping but I really don't want to go through all that work for 10 chicks. So I contact a guy who said he wanted them and and then after we started getting things set up for him to come out he just stops contacting me. Then yesterday a lady says she is coming at 4 to pick up the chicks. So at 4 I get an email saying she can't find my street. I email her back asking where she is at and right after that I send another email with my phone #. She was only 5 miles from my house but instead of trying to figure out where I am at she goes home. So frustrating!

Ron I am so thankful for your updates. I'm to tired and hurt to bad to sit for long and read so many posts. I hate that I can't, but I got 2 pages in and had to get up and move, so thank you!

I have a huge huge problem. I calibrated a hygrometer when I realized I had had my vents closed. I was going by that thing. Yesterday I had4 out of 25 quail hatch. For you that know how easy quail are to hatch, you know that is absolutely terrible. So I kept that hydrometer in, but calibrated another one. 12 hours later it was reading 64. Thing is all of them were higher than 72%, before so I knew I had to much moisture then, but now, the newly calibrated one is one % different than the other one. This is driving me crazy!!! This should have been a dry hatch basically. So I was sitting here almost crying because I just hurt to bad to even do math. If the chicks have been in to high humidity, where the heck should those dsrn things be reading now???? I'm so stressed. On top of it all I hear quail peeping and not sure if I'm hearing peeping in the incubator, but I think I do. I have 61 eggs in there and I don't want to lose another hatch. I'm so stressed out. I wonder if anyone has ever turned to drugs trying to hatch chicks. I just don't get it and don't know what to do to make this hatch better. With all the bad hatches I' ve had over the past 2 years, with really great ones also, I'm just .....idk.... I'm so stressed right now. I used to be able to hatch anything with no problem at all and not I hot and miss and lately I'm missed more than I've hit.

I need to go back to crying now.

My username.... Well, I have grey eyes. I worked in Public Safety Communications from 1977 to 2012, and the NCIC and CJIS data banks abbreviate the color grey (or gray) as "gry."
(Orange is "ong" and purple is "ple," which were fairly new additions about 20 years ago, and I can't get them out of my mind. There, now y'all can have those tidbits injected into YOUR brains!)

I have also used GryEyes911, but on other forums or for my "alternate" (Yahoo) e-mail account.

Well I use Justaposition on Many Sites but its Broken down to
Justa Just a Position meaning my position on life . Many think its hard but i have been this stuborn butt for so long i desided to just be me in this forum.

So Tammy is my name and N well could mean for Naughty , NO , NONE or Norton .

Oh another random thought...Sally said to some one ohhhhh to be young again, then I made a comment earlier about how much BYC almost feels like extended family... I guess that makes Sally and I feel grand-parently to Raz?

hide.gif
maybe I shouldn't link Sally with Grandparently...she could be 30...just the two comments linked to me.
LOL I can be grandparently easily but I swear they better both make it to 30 without any kids!

Talyn is 26 and holding Strong even though he has the same girl for years now, they each have their own place too. I tell them they are weird and I do think its a waste of both of their money!
The other, Dustyn just got engaged so I have a feeling he wont make it very long without kiddos. He tells me not to get worn out with babysitting because I will have ALL his kids to watch! ALLLLLLL say WHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Candled the turkey eggs for this hatch...
Out of 60
47 developing
4 questionable
9 clear, of course 5 are bourbon reds which are the poults everyone wants.
44/48 were developing (again, mostly BR were clear) in the batch set to hatch Friday but that was on day 12, maybe I'll get a chance to candle today, keeping my fingers crossed that I still have good numbers. Not bad for a homemade cabinet incubator.
Forgot how much I love the poults! Our sons (almost 3yrs and 9 months) go crazy for them too, I'm trying to teach the 3yr old that we only touch with 1 finger not squeeze with 2, wish me luck ;)
