**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

DH loves pickled quail eggs, there's a big jar of them in the fridge right now. There is no association between cooked eggs and an egg in the nest. Baking has been the easiest cooking method for me, don't have to get my hands icky breaking them up. And I've been practicing the one handed breaking of eggs that chefs do, LOL. More than once someone has wanted to eat these, until I point out I am not careful with shell bits and manure bits, LOL With quail eggs, I drop them into the pan, pierce them with a sharp knife (so they can vent and won't explode in the oven when they get hot), then break chicken eggs over them. The whole quail egg is just embedded into the cooked egg.
I don't think I've ever baked eggs b4. Never even considered it, but I know my girls would just love them! I usually scramble them & crush the shells in the blender & put them in the scrambled eggs. Sometimes I add buttermilk when they could use the probiotics in their diet.
Looks yummy!!

I make two different batches: one with egg shells for the layers, and one without for the chicks. No calcium for them!! Eggs are good for the dogs too!!
I give my dogs all the icky eggs that I don't wanna wash. They luv 'em
If anyone is looking for more eggs to hatch I have bourbon reds and Sweetgrass eggs coming out my ears. Sure hate to eat them!! My incubator is full. Weekend Special: 5 bourbon reds for $25 including Prioity shipping 10 bourbon reds for $40 including Priority shipping 5 sweetgrass for $27.50 including Priority shipping 5 sweetgrass + 5 bourbon for $40 including Priority shipping
I would sooooo love to get some turkey eggs! Just a little cash poor right now. :( I love the br's, but don't know too much about the sg turks.

Dad woke me up a while ago and I don't think I've ever gone from dead sleep to fully awake so fast in my life. Dad found a grey rat snake in the quail cage and it ate 3 of my babies.

Two of my girls and my A&M that I just found out was a boy the other day. I check for snakes every night from the time it just starts getting warm until almost December. Last night we double checked because the games were making a lot of noise and never found anything. I hate killing non-poisonous snakes, but when they eat my birds they have to die. I had a bad feeling about putting them out there and now I know why. I'll be adding a smaller boxed wire to the cage today. I refuse to lose any more quail to snakes.

Quote: Yeah, downsizing. I've sold several of my adult breeders (will be shipping as soon as I get a MONSTER BOX) and I'm going to sell off more. The chicks are the next gen of several color projects and as soon as I can identify the keepers by color and pattern I'll sell off the culls. It's a bunch of Chocolate this and that, and I'll keep the typiest. I lost several of my South Americans this weekend. Some out at the farm and others here at home. 2 random rare events, and dramatically the same type of hen...I'm considering sending them off to a new home. *sigh* The hardest part of downsizing is choosing who will go. When you're sentimental like I am, it's REALLY difficult.

I'm really sorry. The other wire should work.

On the turkey front, I'm seeing that I've got the makings of Sweetgrass in my poults. Apparently the Wishard Bronze hen has been cavorting with the Royal Palm tom...so my project-oriented brain is immediately strewn with the genetic possibilities, and the offspring resulting are leaning toward the tri-colored chicks for the next selection. Can't.......stop.........scheming........gah!!!

HOT tamales!! I need the kind that my hens can wear for keeping their skins...the boys are focused on one or two of their hens in a few of the flocks, and so apparently I have two VERY sexy lemon cuckoo hens, a fireball goddess banty cochin, and 3 bom-chicka-bow-wow Chocolate Ameraucana pullets. Doesn't matter what the other hens in these pens look like...these are the hot babes. I've watched the boys walk right past a squatting hen to chase one of the bare babes. It's just wrong.

Can you make aprons like this?

That's what I need...like 6 of them big enough for a fluffy Orp. I'd sooooo trade turkey eggs for those!!
Yep, I can do those. I think I actually have a couple sitting around already that may be big enough for your girls. PM me with measurement from top of "shoulders" between the wings to the base of the tail & I will double check to make sure they will work. If not, I will just make more. As you can see from my swap page, I have plenty of fabric laying around.

Quote: I sew, I've just been too lazy to fish the machine out lately...LOL
Lordy, yes, but between the full-time job (with travel), the breeding facility with ~600 birds right now, the hubby and two teen girls (whom I homeschool!!) I'm unable to get 'er done...so my girls are bald and sunburned. It would be a fine trade! :p

The sewing machine is under the dining table between the huge box of chocolate from one company I broker and the huge box of raw macaroons from another vendor. I think the 6 cases of salsa are behind it...
Just PM me some approximate measurements & how many you want & I'll see what kind of deal we can work out for those turkey eggs.

Quote: You would be lost with my 200-300 (it fluctuates depending on when things hatch & when the sales are) then.

I hate snakes!!! Especially when they eat my babies. You let me know when you are ready for more quail eggs & get some 1/2 x 1/2 rabbit wire around those babies so the snakes can't get any more of them. We will work out specifics on jelly then.

Quote: I'm ready now. We already have plenty of rabbit wire from helping a family friend move. Tomorrow dad and Blu plan to get started on a snake proof cage just for them and chances are they'll have it done in the same day. Mom and I are going to make some jelly tomorrow since dad found some of our jars and my cousin brought some back today. I didn't have time to add the wire to the cage today since we had my baby shower, but dad put lime under the cage. (it sit's about 2 1/2 feet off the ground)
