Quote: Yeah, downsizing. I've sold several of my adult breeders (will be shipping as soon as I get a MONSTER BOX) and I'm going to sell off more. The chicks are the next gen of several color projects and as soon as I can identify the keepers by color and pattern I'll sell off the culls. It's a bunch of Chocolate this and that, and I'll keep the typiest. I lost several of my South Americans this weekend. Some out at the farm and others here at home. 2 random rare events, and dramatically the same type of hen...I'm considering sending them off to a new home. *sigh* The hardest part of downsizing is choosing who will go. When you're sentimental like I am, it's REALLY difficult.
Dad woke me up a while ago and I don't think I've ever gone from dead sleep to fully awake so fast in my life. Dad found a grey rat snake in the quail cage and it ate 3 of my babies.
Two of my girls and my A&M that I just found out was a boy the other day. I check for snakes every night from the time it just starts getting warm until almost December. Last night we double checked because the games were making a lot of noise and never found anything. I hate killing non-poisonous snakes, but when they eat my birds they have to die. I had a bad feeling about putting them out there and now I know why. I'll be adding a smaller boxed wire to the cage today. I refuse to lose any more quail to snakes.
I'm really sorry. The other wire should work.
On the turkey front, I'm seeing that I've got the makings of Sweetgrass in my poults. Apparently the Wishard Bronze hen has been cavorting with the Royal Palm tom...so my project-oriented brain is immediately strewn with the genetic possibilities, and the offspring resulting are leaning toward the tri-colored chicks for the next selection. Can't.......stop.........scheming........gah!!!
I'll help you with flock reduction. Just send them ALL to me!!! Muahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
