Hi y’all!

Waddles laid TWO eggs today! The first one was laid, as expected, before sunrise/when I let her outside for the day. Hard shell, nice size - no issue.
here’s where the mystery begins - I went to let her inside for the night at about 5:30, and she had laid a second, squishy egg sometime in the afternoon. I know soft-shelled eggs often come out due to calicium deficiency - she has access to plenty of Oyster Shell during the day, she knows where it is and that it’s there. Any ideas? Just a strange random thing to happen?

If that's a young hen, a hen that's molting, or just coming into or out of lay for the season, oopsie eggs are kind of normal.
This is probably her 5th or 6th egg EVER!!!! I kinda figure since she laid this AM, the time between this morning and this afternoon, when she laid egg number 2, she didn’t have enough time to consume the necessary calcium.

Nah, it's not a calcium issue, it's a reproductive tract oopsie. The egg moved through too fast to get a good shell coating. Just keep giving layer feed and/or free choice oyster shell and it'll probably stop in a few weeks.

I wouldn't because it's way more porous than if it had its full shell but it's probably fine if you eat it today.
I feed them back to my chickens, just outside the nest box.

The shell acts as a barrier and protects against bacteria, so I wouldn't. Sometimes people feed them to their dogs/other animals, though.
