Second Hawk Attack - YIKES!

Just wanted to share that last week, I placed a shiny spinning pinwheel on the same post where that hawk is pictured (in my post (#47)) and next to it some mirror garland (several 2" square mirrors connected with fishing wire) hanging over the fence. Since then I have not seen or heard hawks in my yard, nor have the chickens been freaking out about a predator. The mirror garland constantly throws random reflections, so I hope it's doing the trick and not just a coincidence that the hawk is gone!

Here's my anti-hawk method. Seems to be working so far...

I was worried about hawks as I live in the woods with plenty around. My BIL who vacations in the FL Keys told me about outdoor restaurants stringing fishing line back and forth above the outdoor eating areas and that it keeps birds away. Evidently it confuses the birds and they will not fly down into the area. I inherited a chicken yard with 6 foot high fence and since I am shorter than 6 feet I strung fishing line back and forth from the tops of chain link fence posts. I have heard hawks but so far have not had any problems within the chicken yard. I tied a few orange tags on the fishing line for my taller than 6 foot friends should they enter the chicken yard.

My grandmother always had a flock of chickens.She kelp tin pie plates hanging in the pecan trees al around her house never heard her say anything about hawks getting her chickens.Have any of you tried this.

I just finished reading all the posts. So sorry for all the lost chickens

We have on our property a hawk with a nest and two babies that we can make out. They are about 40 ft or so from my chicken run. My chicks are only 12 days old so they are not in the run yet, but I am scared for them already. The weld wire in our run is only 4 ft tall but I'm going to cover it somehow with netting and we have a fake owl too. I like the idea or hanging old CDs and shiny stuff and think I'll do that too.
