Hey, so I grew up in Central Texas with Brahman and brown leghorn mixes, they were as free range as they get. They roosted in a live oak tree near the house and our favorite pastime was going egg hunting in the hay barn or catching the extra roosters. I’ve decided to start a new flock, by converting a horse stall and using a small predator proof coop as a nesting box, with them being free range on my 10 acres. I’ve ordered two barred rocks, a few red redsex links, and some spangled Russian orlofs. They are coming in the mail in July, with of course a random selection of roosters for warmth. Fingers crossed that they come with either a rocks or Russian rooster, but if not one that will be compatible with my hens. Looking forward to getting some tips or tricks on how to ACTUALITY manage a flock.
