Second try at hatching quails! (This time I'm sharing the whole experience with you!)

I'd get rid of that bowl of water, fill the trough with small rocks or marbles in the base of the black bottomed waterer, put it up on a brick or board so it's chest high on the chicks....
.....and get a real chick or quail feeder, no wonder they are flinging food all over...that dish of feed looks like a dust bath! :gig

Nice brooder expansion!

Get the bowl outta there before the dummies drown themselves in it.

Lol, Will do. As for the feeder I bought the smallest one my local store had but it was still way too big for them to eat from, I think they'll be ready in a week or so

hmm, i know this thread is about the chicks, but i need some help with one of the 3 adult birds i have. they are 1 male and 2 females. i just found one of the two females with a bloody head and an eye which she doesnt seem to be able to open. i took her out of the enclosure and she stands fine but doesnt walk or do anything, she just looks around and moves her head. what should i do? the bloody head seems to be from the male pecking her, but there are no visible wounds, just irritated skin.

hmm, she does seem to be able to walk (tried pushing her a bit and she resists with the feet but then walks reluctanctly) maybe she's just really scared?
I would keep her separated for a while. He may have pecked her head a little bit too hard and cause some damage. I don't think there's much you can do, sorry.

yeah i think i got her early enough, it doesnt seem too serious. should i separate the male from the other female too?
