We now have 10 little chanticlers peepin gin the brooder. I would like to get a second breed of bird so that we can have some variety. Was thinking of goin gwith something a little meatier, but I still can't bring myself to raise Cornish X "meat birds." Does anyone have suggestions for an eating bird that is available in Canada and would do well in the cold? I am thinking Jersey Giants, but I hear they are less than economical as an option. I also can't find any available in Canada.

Any other ideas?

Have you tried doing a search of the breeds database? You can sort the list by any of the categories just by clicking on the name of the category. I would search by the purpose of the bird (laying, meat, dual purpose) and then look through the list for those that are cold hardy and make yourself a short list from those....

I recommend one of the dual purpose breeds, like the brahma.
