Sorry to hear your loss..... I know it is difficult for you to replace chickens from a distant land. Shipping is pricey ... Now onto a different question. Are there large chickens in your area.? We call them STANDARDS. and those smaller chickens, we call BANTAM. I have mostly bantams, but that is what I want, I only keep chickens as pets. I don't eat my chickens. I do eat chickens from the store. Already dressed and cleaned. I check and read threads as I get time. I do this to all threads that I post to.

Thanks @cavemanrich. you are right, it's hard to replace chickens with US breed. They are not common here. they are not really that expensive as the seller gives good discounts plus free chicken. It's the attachment to the birds that frustrates me. Like you, i also keep them as pets and of course for their eggs. But i am not saying that i won't raise chicken for meat in the future. For now, they are my pets.

About your question, the large chickens here in my country are imported from France. They are called sasso. I was told that they are common free ranger in the US.

I also see bantams here but these are kept as pets as it is not practical to raise them for meat. You know what i mean.

Our standard chickens are bigger than bantams but smaller than your regular chickens. They are usually raise for their meat. But normally, neighbors steal them if they get a chance lol
