I need a temporary option to secure my coop. Just found out we have a racoon. I want to purchase a large metal enclosure for the run. Inside this, I would put the actual coop.
Here is my dilemma. I don’t have the metal enclosure yet. I don’t want to put hardware cloth down/trench on the coop to just move it when I get the enclosure. It’s in a weird area where I probably won’t be able to leave the coop where it is and put the enclosure around it. For a temp solution, can I get some cinderblocks, and line those around the coop/run?

My chickens have been free range their entire lives and don’t get locked up typically. So this is new!

Cinder blocks are better than nothing. If the current walls/mesh can be reached through by a raccoon's hands, then it's not safe. I believe raccoons team up and will scare a chicken into a corner, and another one will flank it and reach through to grab it - so if you have a small coop setup then it's even more risky as there isn't much space to get clear of them. Dunno about raccoons, but I've had a skunk dig around cinder blocks to get into my run for leftover scraps, before I did the HC perimeter skirt
