Hi all! I know there have been lots of posts on prolapse and I've read many of them. But I still feel like I need help with decision making on this one! New chicken owner
She has had caking stools with feather loss for a couple months, now a prolapse for 3 days and some feather loss along the breast ridge line. But she acts normal, eats, drinks, etc. I've had her seperated in a pitch dark, small dog kennel since discovering the prolapse. Tried pushing it back in a few seperate times but doesn't stay in. Using honey and will try preparation H tomorrow. Warm baths, no layer feed (just yogurt and some scrambled egg...feel like no food is not right), epsom salt bath soaks. No changes in prolapse. And she keeps laying eggs. I'm not going to go the route of suture/vet visits. How long do I give it? And if I do cull her, think it's safe for stock? She's one of four Barred Rocks. Curious on cause since she's not overweight, only a year old, always had solid, avg sized eggs, part-time free ranger...
Sorry for such a long post and thanks in advance for reading and helping a newbie!
