I will be starting an evening job. I need a good automatic door with a timer. Looking for something sturdy that won't act like a guillotine and that I won't have to replace every 2 years or less. Pry proof from predators. Would appreciate comments from folks who are long time chicken owners.
I've read a lot of answers from automatic door owners of less than 6 months and while this is helpful, it would awesome to learn about some long term tried and true doors as money is an issue. Or what if automatic doors are over all, not the best idea and I should try and trade eggs with a neighbor for closing the coop door LOL!

I have a ChickenGuard, battery operated and on a timer, for the last 2 years. Only have replaced batteries once so far. It is guillotine style but that just means routinely checking on the condition of the cord to ensure it isn't fraying. If installed correctly there should be no pry risk. It did malfunction once (didn't open one morning) - with ANY auto door you should always have some way of ensuring it opens and closes without fail. We use a coop camera to make sure everyone is safely locked inside at night, for example.
