Seeking Feedback From Those Who Painted Hardware Cloth

I spray-painted mine black with RustOleum high performance spray paint meant for metal surfaces. I love it! It was easy and looks so much better. Basically made the HC disappear. I can’t speak for longevity yet because it has only been a month, but since that’s what this paint was meant for, I imagine it should last. So far so good!

Accidentally. Lowe's "Barn & Fence" exterior paint in that classic flat red. Cheap, water based latex in a 5 gallon bucket.

Dries instantly in the FL heat. Flakes right into bits too small to recognize w/i a week or two - fast under a hose with a fireman's nozzle or similar.

It was an annoyance, not a regret. *The paint DOES work well, though it requires two coats, on HardieBoard. The concrete sucks the first coat right up, second coat half hour later is just for uniformity of appearance, so your walls aren't mottled pink.*

I spray-painted some with black Rustoleum. The hardware cloth was clean and dry when I sprayed it, it stuck well and the wire pretty much disappeared. You could see inside the run really well.

I worked in an offshore environment. The splash zone, the area just above the water where waves are breaking against the structure all the time and stays wet with that salty water is an extremely corrosive environment. We had a special paint we used, I can't remember what it was. If we painted the galvanized grating it would last three or more times as long as ungalvanized grating. We discovered that when we had some over-spray on a structural repair. Hardware cloth is galvanized.

I just rolled on a cheap sample of black paint ($2 for a one cup jar) from the “returns/rejects” shelf at Home Depot and its been on 3 years no problem. From across the yard you can’t even tell there is hardware cloth on the run, just looks like chickens standing in the yard.
That’s great to hear! Since our coop and run is a ways from the house, it’s important we be able to see them clearly.
