Seeking Speckled Sussex

I’m in Southern California and recmtly lost two girls to an extreme heat spike. I was told to stay away from fluffy chickens and try the speckled Sussex. I hear they are quite friendly and heat tolerant. The trouble is, I can’t seem to locate any here in Southern California. Mail order just seems so risky amd there is usually a minimum order. Since I only want 2 female chicks, I’m at a loss. Any recommendations?

Hi! I live in the SF Bay Area and I am working on a purebred line of speckled Sussex right now.
I have a rooster that is so gorgeous and sweet that I got some hatching eggs to get him some hens.
They are 2 months now. Once they start laying I am in business.

Speckled Sussex are my favorite chickens. I am raising all kinds of breeds for fun, often from hatchery stock and the speckled Sussex hens I sold to an older lady turned out to be so tame and nice, she asked for more of them. They are nicer than any Wyandotte or Buff Orphinton she has.
If you want any hens, I will sell some in spring.

I have looked everywhere for SS chicks or hatching eggs and all the listed breeders either don’t breed any more or didn’t have anything.
I found my eggs in Kentucky.
